Advice Needed on Skybox Freeview or Freesat

Hi all,

I currently have ordinary freeview. I'm very restricted on my channels and therefore was thinking about getting a sky box for freeview or freesat. Which would people say is better? Freesat or sky freeview?

Also if I were to get sky freeview is all I need a box and a sky viewing card? If I buy a sky box with a hard drive can I record programmes?

On the outside of my house I have a frame where a satellite dish used to be. A lead remains which runs from the framework down into my lounge. Can any1 recommend where to buy a cheap satellite dish and do I need to do anything else to get it to work or can I plug the lead into the skybox and satellite dish and hopefully that should be it?

Sorry 4 all the questions but I'm trying to understand which the best option is and how to get it working.

Thanks in advance

why are you restricted on your freeview channels? :?

Edit...and its not quite as simple as sticking a dish up on the frame. you need to line the node up at the angle of the satellite so that you get a good signal.

I lost ITV3 AND ITV 4 when they retuned for channel 5. I can't get skysports news either which my friend has at his about 10 mins up the road. i get all the basic channels and a few others such as e4, channel 5 channel 4+1 bbc news and thats about it lol

My next door neighbour has a dish so I guess I'll have mine in the same direction as his?

re the freeview, is your aerial an outside one on the roof? if not then that could be a good solution to getting more channels.

re the satellite, it takes a little more than pointing it in the same direction lol....there will be a guide in the kit if you buy one that tells you which angle to put it at and in which direction.

Will check the details but have seen on dish pointer where to direct the dish. In Weymouth we received freeview when we went digital thats how far behind the times we are. Its because in Dorchester or accross the otherside of town a different signal is picked up but I live in a dip so cannot get the same signal

same as me then, Dorset , we lost all ours & had to retune & fiddle after a "switchover" on the Rowridge transmitter (Isle of wight), so much for being a no nonsense experience, the actual switch off for our area isnt until 2012, be interesting to see what happens then !

I'm glad we can now get freeview however it's annoying seeing every1 else having better channels than me!!

Yeah was thinking that!! Do you know what card I need to get to watch freeview on a sky box? Also do you know if I can record if I get a sky box with a hard drive?
