my little girl just pulled the laptop off the table whilst it was charging and it has landed on the charging point and it now wont charge can the power point be removed and another one soldered on if so where will this be done and how much would it cost .its an acer aspire 1640 z

House insurance....make a claim...................... new one.........some power supply inputs cannot be repaired.

Its a known thing.............. so you can damage it and then claim on insurance.

Not saying you did that.

Hiya I had the same problem, I was quoted £80 for a new (Charge point - sorry dont know technical name lol) inside the laptop.

Wasn't worth a claim tbh.

i have an excess of 60 pounds so if its 80 pounds then not worth the claim where did you take yours to be fixed 4lyons09

Wasn't worth it for me either, Urm..... well I still havnt got it fixed :oops: Bought a new laptop, but it was a local computer shop where I was quoted. Check its not the charger though. :thumbsup:

IF it cannot be repaired you get a new one for £60 MBM:thumbsup:

i have checked the charger its fine but inside the laptop and i can see the pin and surroundings are pretty bashed but it will work until the battery runs out lol

Just solder one back on. Get it at Maplin and if you mess it up buy another. I am only saying this because you are not claiming on the Insurance..Good Luck

most people dont opt for accidental damage cover and a lot exclude laptops / computers even then.

My acer 5720 has a simple plug in one - no soldering required. It will require you completly opening up your laptop though and either seeing if you can bend the pins back into the right shape, or buying a new one from ebay or something.

A link here on how to dismantle and replace charger socket here ;- http://www.specis.me.uk/blog/pivot/entry.php?id=105 . the socket is advertised on a well know auction site for £1.29 + 82p postage
