Would appreciate any advice on selling a laptop either on here or elsewhere. My other half won a laptop in a competition. A great surprise, but surplus to requirements at the present moment. Not too keen on selling on ebay due to scam artists. Not sure if one is allowed to sell competition wins on here either.

If I do end up selling on ebay, which would be a last resort, what precautions can I take? Given the horror stories of buyers filing for refunds after receiving the item on some pretext or the other, what safety measures can be taken to avoid such mishaps?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Cheers

i dont think you can restrict people with low feedback only certain members who's id you have.you can stop them bidding on your auction.

LOL thought you meant make a new account on here for a minute.

If selling on ebay do cash on collection only.

Try local shops, Wilkinsons and Tescos allow you to put free adverts on notice boards as do most co-ops, many newsagents and post offices do too, then theres sites like gumtree,(admag, friday ads (also do print versions)) pre-loved, local papers etc etc, in these days of ebay many great alternatives often get overlooked.

Thank you all for the advice.

The ebay cash on collection sounds good. Gumtree sounds good too. Will check out Friday ads.

To be honest, I have sold many laptops on eBay and I will say they have got rid of a lot of the scammers. If you use paypal only accounts, that will get rid of quite a few. And if you take a video of you using the laptop before posting it, paypal will accept this as sufficient proof that there is nothing wrong with the laptop in case someone does try to pull a fast one.

It used to be that you could not sell comp wins but they have changed to allow the sale of comp wins so the answer is yes you can but now since you have made this thread you will have to wait 7 days before making a fs/ft thread
