Advice needed re: accident at work

hey all just wanted some feedback about something that happened to me a few weeks ago:

i was working (in a retail store) one sunday clearning a potentially dangerous hazzard from some shelves which had wall hanging items.

while i was doing this a rather large mirror around 5 foot fell and the big frame hit me sqaure on the back of my head. i didn't pass out but if it was a cartoon i'd have seen them stars. anyway, i managed to get up and make the area safe so it wouldn't happen again.

i then went and hold the dep store manager, not much interest. i asked to get a drink cause i felt a bit ill after it. i had my drink and had to carry on with my shift. we then as a store had a meeting for 3 hours :(

we were able to get some food after. during that week i had to go to a and e after a trip to the walkin centre told me i had to get checked out after a constant headache. i was told i had concussion but if it continued to come back.

wel the following sunday at the same job i wasn;t doing very well and smacked my head on a shelf and went again to a and e after nearly knocking myself out. at a and e i had a ct scan and thankfully there is a brain and no swelling or damage just the concussion.

right so afer reading that would you consider putting in a accident claim as everyone that knows what has happened has told me to. even some people i work with in both that job and my main job. thankfully the week of the accident i was able to do light duties in my other job otherwise i'd have been up the creak as it were

thoughts advice etc

only ask cause i've just getting over the cold and the docs think its cause i didn't take any time off when i had the constant headache and might have weaken my immune system thus getting a really bad case of the cold which stopped me from working :(

i don't think it would be worth even bothering but i thought i should try and get some third party thoughts

cheers for reading!

For starters, did you put the first accident in your Accident Record book at work?

Surely you should have reported it straight away? My guess would be that it would be harder to prove anything 'major' happened. There would be loads of factors though.

Stop being so clumsy? oO:D

If nobody put the accident in the book, then that is a hefty fine for them straight off.

Every and all accidents should/must be put in the book....
Also sounds as if your employers are a bit on the shady side when it comes to H&S and any aftercare.

You want to sue them for you banging your head on a shelf?

Geez, what is it with everyone not taking responsibility for their own actions anymore.

I think the first incident was that a mirror fell on the bonce. Not really the OP's fault.

Freeloader looking for free money to increase all insurance premiums.

You should be wearing a hard hat. Its your and your employers responsibility to ensure you have the correct gear at work.

If you dont have the correct gear you need to escalate it to management,

cheers so far and the dep manager is the first aider but didn't get put in the accident book till i had been hospital and i asked them to. don't think i hard hat is appropriate working in a retail shop somehow but thanks for all comments so far.

and no it wasn't for the shelf hit but the mirror accident personally i was not happy i had to stay for a 3 hour meeting and the a and e team think the company should have taken me to them once it had happened and the store mananger is not happy with the dep manager and even the HR team have phoned a couple of times to make sure i'm ok as i work hard in both jobs and they know i work 7 days a week over two jobs.

If you haven't filled in an accident report, do it as soon as you can as, without it, there's no record that the accident even happened. You should always do this after an accident at work, even if you feel fine, just in case problems crop up later.

I have to admit, this is advice I never take heed of myself, but as your vision seems to be affected too, you aught to. In the meantime, you can feel your way to the shift key: it's the second from the bottom on the left. :p

don't wanna take the **** tbh and i doubt i would as i like 99.9% of the guys in there just seemed bit dodgy that the 1st aider saw me didn't check me over or anything and didn't inform the store manager a mere hour and half after it happened when they entered the store for the meeting which made me head worse,

don't wanna dig for the money but worried its gonna happen to a college or worse a customer!
