Hey,

I know there are loads of questions about Windows 7 bouncing about at the moment, but basically, can anyone tell me of a quick / easy way of backing up things on my computer, so that I can do a clean install of Windows 7? I'm fine with the backing up of files and folders / music / videos / photos etc. Its just the actual applications and programs.

I have loads of applications on here that i've built up over the last couple of years and I'm hoping there might be a simple way that i can actually back up some of the applications as opposed to having to completely re-install all of them. Or am I going to have to do it the hard way?

This includes things like printers and broadband setups etc. I just find the whole task of re-installing everything again a complete and utter chore!

Any advice / tips or any software that might help me with this would be much appreciated. I'm even happy to buy software as long as it works and does the job i want it to, so any solutions don't have to be free software related.

Thanks in advance, and obviously rep to anyone that can help :)

P.S. Sorry to post probably the one millionth comment about Windows 7 and installation!!!!

I've got Vista Home Premium 32-bit on both my desktop and laptop at the moment.

I'm installing Windows 7 32-bit on desktop and installing Windows 7 64-bit on laptop.

Can you just do an upgrade?

Well I could do an upgrade from 32-bit vista to 32-bit windows 7, which would keep my files, but I would prefer to do a clean install to stop any junk being transferred from one to the other, although i definately would consider just doing an upgrade if I can't find a simpler solution to backing up my applications.

On my laptop however, I will be going from 32-bit Vista to 64-bit Windows 7, so a clean install will be needed :-(

My main concern is I live in the sticks, so my broadband speed is basic (around 0.5 meg), so to download a whole suite of applications again will take a painfully long time!
