a wireless dongle is to connect to your home broadband, obviously you need a wireless router, a broadband dongle is mobile interent i think, you pay a package like you do with home bradband, if he wants to connect to your home broadband wirelessly he needs the wirelss dongle

ok so his netbook has built in WiFi, he wont need a wireless dongle then will he?

So If he wants to use our home internet he doesnt need any dongle?

Oh Im so confused lol The broadband dongle helps him use it outside in places? as he is going away to work I am wondering if this is what he would need to contact home via the internet.

I think i will need to talk to a phone shop :S I am so dull where things like this are.

no he doesnt need a wireless dongle then

if he wants to use the interent from anywhere then he will need a mobile package, like your broadband where you pay a set amount each month for a certain package

-correct
-no he doesn't, just needs to connect to your router and type in the key number
-yes a 3G dongle is a mobile internet (basiclly the type you get on the iphone for example) but you pay £15 a month for it. There are deals on here for 3G dongles

You need a broadband dongle, but check coverage of the area your husband is working in as differnt operators may have better coverage in certain areas.

some places have free internet, like pubs, hotels or macdonalds so it depends on where he is working he might be able to connect for free to talk to home

Thank you all. I have just purchased the O2 dongle on the deals page of this site :S Hope its what he needs.

Ding im sure he will use going to a Pub to get free internet acess as a very good excuse :)

Hopefully when our wireless router comes for our home we can try and figure it all out a bit easier!

sassie this would be his best option, But im not 100% sure if he would need one or not so for the £10 plus £18 points back it seems worth it.

Im just thinking as he will be going back in the Navy and his base doesnt have wireless then this dongle will mean he can use the net?

I am sorry for being so dull and making things confusing lol
Also Sassie thanks for trying to help me out :)

He left when we had our 2nd Daughter, said he was missing too much of them growing up. But I think he has realised out in Civvy life just isnt what its cracked up to be. He has been out for 3 years and stuck in the same old boring Job,
He is going back in as an Stores accountant, He was a chef before but wants a change :)

Glad I got the dongle now :)

no worries hun, remember if he wants to use mobile broadband he will also need to get a package the dongle itself doesnt give you free interent access

paddy they have told him when he goes back in he has no choice but to do at least 4 years again before he could put his 12 month notice in, Hopefully he will see the rest of his time out to get a nice pension :) It seems the more realible and safer jobs out there doesnt it. Im looking forward to my weekend husband again when he isnt a sea hehe.

Sassie, this one is a pay as you go dongle where if I put £15 on he can only use online till his £15 runs out? If thats the case thats great as I can just top it up for him online when he needs it x
