Advice on connecting a Nokia 5800

My wife has a Nokia 5800 and is wondering whether it can be used as a music player in her car. Her car has an aux input which works wth her IPod but does anyone know if the 3.5mm jack in the phone can be hooked up to the aux input for her car stereo?

Yes, this is what I do, Plug the 3.5mm jack into the head phone socket, the phone will give to a couple of options for use of cable, choose headphones, then with your car stereo in aux mode use your phone as you normally would if using as MPe player.
I also find it works really well as a hands free phone, the sound comes through the hifi and the microphone on the phone picks up your voice, been told it's really clear and people can hear me perfectly even when driving on motorways.

Sorry forgot to mention you can get 3.5mm to 3.5mm cables really cheap on amazon (or any other good website)

Brilliant. I thought this would work but my wife's at work at the moment. Will try it later for her.
Cheers. Rep left.

I have one of those old-skool tape-wth-a-cable, which I use with this phone, works great.

I've done it in mine.
I've a sony h/u with USB and aux so can chose but it does with with male/male 3.5mm ended cable (oo-er)
What i have found mind with mine at least is that you cannot control the music via the headunit so what i have done is used the inline remote control that came with the 5800 for next track, play/pause etc :)

How did you manage that? Isn't the inline remote on the headphones that came with the phone?

Not on mine no. It's separate. What came with the phone is a pair of normal nokia 3.5mm headphones that can be plugged direct into phone, or anything else for that matter. The inline remote is separate and has a female end and a male end

if you have at look at this pic at the end of this post, rather than plug the headphones into the top simply plug the male end of the male to male 3.5mm cable i spoke of before, straight into the aux point of the h/u. The other end as you can guess plugs into the phone itself.
Just connect the phone up as you would normally to the headphones. Then remove the headphones part of the lead and attache the cable you're gonna use to connect to the h/u
