I bought a Samsung CLP-300 Colour Laser Printer from Oyyy.co.uk back in October 2007.
It has had very little use only used about 1/5 of my toners, which is about 200 odd pages.

Now it suffers from constant paper jams, which by looking online is a common fault.

The Amazon reviews for this printer say it has a lot of problems with paper jams.
Oyyy just referred me to Samsung, who bsaically sadi that as it is out of it's 12 month warranty I would have to pay for an engineer to come out, but this would probably cost more than a new printer anyway.

I consider that this printer has an inherent fault which makes it not of merchantable quality.

Any advice on what I should do, or shall I just take the toners out and try to sell them on and throw the rest of it away?

I also have a full set of spare toners bought at the time.

Any advice very much appreciated.

TBH out of warranty, unfortunately I dont think you dont have a leg to stand on, the fault should have been reported within the 12 months period. It's a shame it had little use, I suppose if you had used it more you would have been aware of the fault sooner hence had a chance to claim off the warranty

Seconded, to have any chance of getting money back you'd have to prove that the printer was faulty throughout the 12 months, which is probably more than a little difficult. Sorry!

No imo. But the warranty is only for 12 months, which is effectively the length of time that Samsung have guaranteed that the printer should be fault free. Outwith that time frame, they can hold their hands up and claim that it's not their fault.

I would agree that it has to last a reasonable length of time and a 80> printer should last 2 years within fair conditions. Claim is the key word, I can claim that I am a demi-god, doesn't mean I am right (I am though :) )

I've just fired an e-mail off to Oyyy asking them to arrange repair as they are responsible as the seller.

It all comes down to what your definition of a reasonable life expectancy is.

The 12 month warranty is just a figure they pick out of the air. It's not a legal cut off point.

and be sure to make no mention of warrenty in your comms with the company, it is the SOGA which you are staking your claim under, not their "warrenty".
TBH i have just had a year of this with an item that went faulty with 10mins use, despite my best efforts it took a whole 12mths to pursue through the courts and would have been a fair bit of work had i not been in an easy position to do the required letter etc.
very much depends on your principles, determination and to be honest you might not get the answer you are looking for if your adversary is anyway competant.

Thanks all for your help, I may as well pursue it and see what happens, but as soon as it looks like it might cost me money I'll give up.

The thing isn't worth that much now anyway.

I'll just never buy anything Samsung again, and that includes the LCD TV I've been looking at.
