Hiya folks, any advice will be much appreciated but just last few days my laptop keeps turning tiself off from overheating even though it has been sat on all 4 feet on a table. It is only 9 months old and I am looking to upgrade soon but just in the meantime what can I buy that's good that will help?

Keep it raised at all time. buy some compressed air and blow out the vents... Make sure all the fans are running too.

or take it to a local repair shop and they will strip it down and clean it all for you...

Key is ventilation!!

Its likely to cause more problems in the long run so take care!

Good advice... I would only add that if you're handy with a screwdriver, there are often service manuals that show you exactly how to strip down your laptop yourself to clean it. It can be surprising how quickly dust builds up in critical places esp. if you have pets.

Wow, hadn't thought of any of that but hubby is pc wizard so will get him onto it asap. Lol

Problem with fanned coolers are depending on the way your laptop exhausts its heat, you could be blowing air in the exhaust port causing the laptop to keep the heat in... if you know what i mean...

If you let me know the make and model i'll try and search for a service manual.

It is not too difficult to add new thermal paste and change the fans, the tricky part is remembering where all the screws go, but just keep them in order.

Normally your laptop will have plate above the keyboard, possibly with the power button and caps/numlock lights. This normally flips off first, then you can take out the keyboard and go from there.

Let us know the make/model of your laptop if you wanna try this and we can see if there is service guide for it.

I've got mine on a table sitting on top of a tin version of Bioshock - works a treat
