I would just leave them both alone til they have both got used to the idea of each other, there will always be a pecking order between animals and they have to sort that out

I had this problem once but once ignored and left to get on with it they soon sorted it out (make sure kitty doesnt get hurt)

good luck :)

at the mo me and annie are in the bedroom and sophie is hiding behind chair in living room growling i have shut the hallway door so i could get couple hours kip at 4am this morning and have shut it again now as annie wants to play and investigate but she keeps trying to go behind chair im afraid she will get hurt so think i might keep them seperate untill this afternoon and hope sophie calms down a bit

The older cat has to show dominance to the little one just let them get on with it just make sure the kitten does not get hurt and they will work it out .But be aware that some cats will never get on and just tolerate each other. Good luck:thumbsup:

Had similar problem, and was advised to keep them in seperate rooms, and swap them about so they got used to each others smell. Took a little time and the older one still puts her in place every now and again, but most of the time they are fine - in fact they gang up on any stray cat that ventures in to our garden.
Good luck and enjoy

I had similar prob but to my surprise it was the new kitten that was not happy with my eldest cat when we got her. Prior to this i had two cats, mother and son, who hated each other. The mother died and we got a kitten and i thought it would be the eldest cat who would cause trouble due to his spats with his mum, but he actually did not bother with her. She was the one that was hissing every time he came into the room, however, after a week or so (prob less) when she got used to her new surroundings she actually got to like him and now they play fight all the time.

Just give them time to get used to each other. Hopefully, they will start to get one.

put them in a ring and let them fight to the death! .......just kidding

cheers all i know its usual for the cats to spit and growl at each other for a little while but just wanted to see if its usual for the older cat to hit out at owner whenever she goes near her?

Don't feed it it'll then realise who the master is again it's harsh but it will prob work as it'll need to come to you

Don't bite the hand that feeds.....

Not that I'm an expert by any means but I would've thought this is normal- her territory has been compromised so she's probably exerting it to everyone she comes in contact with to show them 'who's boss'

It's normal for her to lash out at you, she's annoyed with you for bringing another cat into her territory. My friend brought her new kitten around to show us and my male cat whilst he was polite to the kitten, keeping his distance and not hissing etc, sulked with me for a few days after she went home, a more experienced cat owner told me he would blame me for the unusual smell in his territory. Some cats are just touchy I guess! Good luck with the kitten, I'd love to get one but that experience put me off, would be interested to know how long it takes for your cat to settle down with both you and the kitten?

I would suggest you dont make a fuss of Annie when Sophie is around, its gonna be a tough few days. Stick it out though and it will be worth it. :)

This sounds really good advice.
I had one cat for years and she got very spoilt. But a kitten turned up in my garden one day. Didnt even have a proper set of teeth it was so young so I decided to take it in. From day one the older cat hated the younger one. She never became friends with it. The younger one just learnt to stay out of striking distance.
If I attempted the same again I would rub a cloth/flannel/teatowel on each cat and then place the cloth from the opposite cat near the food bowl when they were given food. Hopefully to create a feeling that the smell of the other cat was a good thing.

Dont know if it would work but worth a try. Let them mingle when you are around. Good luck. Kitten looks gorgeous.
