If you have no luck with Autotrader, then you wont have much luck elsewhere......

People swear by Autotrader, the couple of cars I've advertised have summoned no interest at all, only canvassers yet sold easily on ebay...

we sold both our cars recently on gumtree website. its free, and both cars sold pretty quickly.

we advertised on lots of gumtree sites as people are prepared to travel out of there local area to see a car.

both cars were in the middle price range.

I've put my car up here. Not applying this as a general rule but I think a huge amount of people on here are 'techheads' (I'm one).

It is true that some people swear by autotrader, but I personally think that the prices of advertising with them are a bit of a rip off. I think I might use autotrader as a last resort. Also..as I am learning. Patience is a virtue.

hi i am not saying dont use autotrader just please be very wary of autotrader as my sister advertised her brand new car forsale when her hubby left and an irish chap came around to look the next day he returned with an envelope to buy he was asked to wait outside while she went to get the paperwork from upstairs and he dashed in the house took the keys off the key rack and drove away the police never caught him or found the car oh by the way the envelope contained nothing and he took thirteen thousand pounds worth of car and nearly ran my sister over and the neighbour at the sme time and the police were as usual only any good for tea and sympathy they said these people target cars that are ordered

Good advice

Am always wary, usually insist on seeing Id plus a withdrawal slip from the bank if taking cash then make sure it's out the house straight away, hate to think somebody knows there's several thousand kicking around the house.

Last car i sold i actually got the buyer to do a telegraphic transfer direct to my bank account at my cost, which meant neither of us risked handling cash with the risks involved.

Other than that if buyer pays cash get them to come during banking hours and escort you to the bank to pay it in that way you should both be a little safer.

The whole thing always seems so risky...
