Advice on phone unlocking

Hi
I've been thinking about unlocking my nokia 5230 which is locked to Tesco, they offered to unlock it for £20 and a local dealer said he couldn't do it and that was a good price.
Two questions, is it a good price and how easy is it to use the Internet on the phone, we recently got a giffgaff sim and on my daughters cookie surfing is quite messy.
Thanks to anyone who can give me a bit of help

£20 is pretty reasonable. I had a Nokia 5130 which was locked to Tesco and nowhere could do it for less than £30 except them. The equipment which can unlock these generation of Nokia phones is only a year or so old and it's expensive to buy, so people who have it charge a lot per unlock. Cheapest I can see is £35 (which was more than when I looked a year or so ago!!)

Tesco apply directly to Nokia for an unlock code rather than unlocking it via a machine. If the code doesn't work (it didn't in my case), then you send it off to them to be unlocked with a machine..

Thanks, I might give them a ring back and ask what exactly they do I don't want to send it away, I wonder if Nokia shops would unlock it, off to look up the nearest shop.

Yes I thought that, but the one I contacted said they could not do it, tesco are going to unlock an old mobile that I'm going to use my giffgaff card in ( I only have the £5 credit not a goodie bag and I don't use the phone much so free internet probably won't last after end of Feb) then later in the year they will unlock mine for free, meantime I'm going to try the £2 a week Internet tesco offers to see how I get on.
I live near Norwich but not often in the centre but I will ask when I am there.
From now on unlocked phones !
