Hi, i am selling some PS3 items on here, Buyer wanted one particular item from me so i accepted the offer. Payment was to be made by BT.
After giving my bank details the buyer had problems with online banking so asked to pay by paypal. Ddint really want to do this due to having to wait for funds in my bank account but after some pursuasion i accepted.
Buyer emailed to say payment sent when i checked paypal it said £x.xx from xxxx uncleared. When i clicked on it, it stated he was paying by echeque and would take 7-9 days to clear. I Pm'd the buyer to state i wouldnt send out until cleared and he is not happy with this and said he would send me a email me a copy of his bank account to show money in there so it will clear. I said i wasnt happy with that and will noly post once money has cleared due to bad experiances with paypal previously.

Do you agree with me??

If it's echeque dont send until its cleared cause he can just 'bounce' it by clicking cancel.

I totally agree with you... Stand your ground and don't send it out until the money has cleared in your account... It was the buyer that had the problem with their online banking so don't feel bad about it at all...

Yes don't send it until payment has cleared

I would even say your within full rights to cancel the sale if he never said he was going to pay by e-cheque

I just wish the buyer could understand this as im only trying to be causious. Thanks guys. Rep added for you all.

Back when I first started using paypal, it used to send echeques even though I wanted to send instant payments. Was very annoying but I had to wait till they'd cleared till people would send things, its the done thing ;)

Tell him that your not happy to wait that long and ask him her to cancel the payment, if they don't just wait until it has cleared and return the payment to them

I'm thinking now that unless you send it out before the payment has cleared your going to receive some bad feedback so at least you have aired your concerns here a mod would be able to rectify it for you if you do

Edit - if it's that much of a problem to the buyer you can offer them the chance to pay you instantly again

I explained to the buyer that they could cancel the echeque and do telephone banking if they wish which he has just messaged me to say he will do. He says there is no cancel button on paypal so will have to contact them to get it cancelled. So hopefully now we can complete the deal. (once payment has been recieved in to my account obviously)

And make sure you send to their VERIFIED address, not some address round the corner.....

well it is a personal payment i think so no address supplied.

He doesn't have your address, does he? I was reading about a scam recently - if he has your postal address and you bank account number, you may be open to identity theft. Be very careful.

don't send it until payment has cleared
#20
Not saying that it's a scam, but it sounds a bit like one.

Agrees to pay via BT, then has a problem and can't do it.

Then sends an echeque and demands for delivery before the cheque clears.

Next thing to watch out for as Shengis said I believe is that if there's an address included with payment then you must send to that address (make sure that it's a confirmed address, not an unconfirmed one).

Send recorded or appropriate.

Only the person receiving the payment (hollypinder) can cancel the e-cheque. What you have to do to cancel it is click on the refund payment button and refund the whole amount and this will then cancel the payment. :) (It will not take any money out of your account in an actual refund)

I sold a Alpine unit a few weeks ago on ebay and i had the same problem. The guy was having trouble making payment and in the end 'payed' by echeque and after few days i received an email stating he had canceled the payment! Was very pi$$ed off! Dont know if this was due to not having the funds :?

You are well within your rights, it is like a normal cheque, dont trust anyone these days x
