Today i received a Birth certificate for a bay whom i dont know. It has been sent from the Child Benefit department. I have just phoned them and their response was for me to send it back. obviously i'm going to do that as i dont want it. Are these parents going to find out that their childs birth certificate was sent to the wrong address, who knows what would have happened if it had have fallen into the wrong hands.
What do you guys suggest i do? Should i just send it back and forget about it?? I would very much like to hear what you'd do.

its typical departmental f up, very unprofessional... where'd they get your address from?

i'm wondering if the parents are neighbours and someone just put the wrong house number on the cert or if OP has recently had a baby and the addresses have been mixed up or something... thats why i'd question why your address is on the envelope... was it addressed in your name too?

Probably because i claim child benefit. The only link between us are that we share the same surname, but so does everybody. Our towns arent even close.

I assume someone just had a "stupid moment" due to the surnames being the same. In that case I would return it to them along with a covering letter.

No i dont, they only supplied the shorter version which only includes the Name, DOB and where they registered the birth. I would have done that. If somebody else received my BC i would put in a complaint.

Ah ok then. Is it the original?
If it isn't I would notify the CBD and then shred it.

Dont bother. Govt depts dont sign for Recorded deliveries.

Just send it back ordinary post. Its just a simple error and no big deal.
