Hi All,

I was hoping someone could give me some advice ... I sold a phone on ebay for £45 and sent it recorded 1st class on 17th december.

The tracking information only shows it was posted at the post office but the buyer now wants a refund ...
If he escalates it to ebay what will happen?

If he hasn't received it and Royal Mail haven't got a signature for it then he will get a refund. You can then claim back £36 off Royal Mail.

Always best to send silver service ( when over £36 in value) as I myself have had alot of items go missing. You will have to wait 21 days )correct me if i'm wrong someone!!!! before you can put a claim in with Royal Mail.

always send Special Delivery but you will only get paid out if you prove the value of the item. e.g. original receipt. Also worth taking photos of the item

and the buyer is entitled to a full refund!

this happened to me last year. you need to get some forms off the post office to make a claim for compensation. they were pretty quick at giving me the cost of the item back so i could refund the seller the only thing was that my postage costs weren't refunded only the value of the item (you need to print off several pages from ebay for proof)

It is quite possibly sitting at his local Post Office depot - I have had lots of cases where the postie has 'attempted' delivery and not left a card, and the tracking info hasn't updated. If you are still on speaking terms with them, get them to phone/visit their local depot to check the phone is not there waiting for them.

did the buyer say why he wants a refund ? did he say not received or diff reason. if it is not received i would refund him item value but minus postage and do it before it gets to paypal claim coz they will give hime back everything.

Then ring RM Customer Service first as they often don't update the website but they can tell you for sure.

Dont panic about lost item yet.
I posted an item first class recorded on the 28/11/09 arrives 16/12/09.
Buyer was ok but royal mail stink.

if you've got the imei you should report it stolen wit hthe network. then if he has got the phone and he's chancing it he'll have a locked handset which will hopefully cost him time and money to try to unlock it.,??

I posted something 2 weeks before xmas. First class recorded but the website is still showing that the item is at the post office and hasnt been delivered. However the guy who purchased it has given me feedback so i know he has it. I had to be careful when emailing him to see, but he was genuine and said it came through ok.

So goes to show either Royal Mail havent updated yet or they never will. Yep he could of easily tried a fast one, but he was a honest guy. HOWEVER i also posted something else the same week. I got an email from the guy 2 weeks later all in caps 'WHERES MY GAME. HAVE YOU POSTED YET, HAVE YOU TRACKING NUMBER!". I checked royal mail and the item was delivered a day after i posted and signed for. I emailed the guy back saying this and havent heard from him since lol. Just goes to show that he was hoping i had no tracking number and he would of most probs tried to blag it and pull a fast one ;-)

Phone them up and tell them you want postage refunded too, they didn't provide the service did they so why on earth should you pay for it????
