Advice please on satelite dishes lnb's cable tv boxes, sky ??

I had trouble with picture freezing the other night so I got up and had a look and the dish is broken so flaps around in the wind!

I got some good advice when I thought it was just a case of moving the dish so I thought I'd ask here again.

I do not pay any subscription to sky so calling them out is not an option.

I was going to just buy another standard sky dish but then started looking at bigger dishes and have been searching for some info....

Can I buy a bare 90cm dish and swap the lnb thingy from the original sky dish and will this be of any benefit?

Any ideas regarding boxes or dishes to pick up other satelites etc?

I cancelled my cable account and they collected the box a few months ago. I can't get another vm box unless I pay £20 a month for 12 months again can I?

Thanks to anyone who wants to help while I trawl through the web for the answers!

I will post any useful info I find myself that may help others in the same boat.

depends what you want
freesat might be worth looking at, i know b&q were doing a set for about £50 before, not sure if they still do though.
If you have a virgin phone you can get tv free
depends what channels you want really

Will look up the eurovox cheers.

Not too bothered about the channels really as I don't watch tv much.

Anyone know http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=47161 Can I use this with my old lnb?

Also as I am married to bt and o2 for the next 9 months or so having another phone/broadband supplier seems a bit pointless. Freeview signal isn't great here but I am considering that now too.

Lots of questions in one post..:-D

Your dish/LNB question; a standard Sky Dish should be OK in most weather conditions, there are 2 types; Region 1 and Region 2, the 2 version is slightly larger and is used mainly in the north of the country.

Your Sky LNB is not really suitable for any other dish than a Sky Dish, it is designed for an oval shaped Sky dish.

Hope this helps.

I dont have Sky [ and never will have ] but have a full motorised setup since the days of D2-mac , Analogue and now Digital . My setup allows me to watch hundreds of channels from Europe , many are FTA , many are not . A new 90cm dish would be ideal for these other satellites but you would need a new reciever .Without a motorised setup you would be limited to view just one sat .If you can recieve the channels on Sky [28.2*] I would just buy another mini-dish and replace your existing dish . I've bought LNB's form Lidle for only £3.99 and I have'nt had any trouble from them .There is many second hand recievers for sale on ebay , I would recommend looking at the TM [Technomate] range . Single dishes are easy to put up , all you would need is a compass and a meter . I've done loads of them including the motorised ones .These are a little harder to set up [motorised] as there are many angles to get right depending on your location .hth

yea as said above get a dish cheap as chips on ebay and a box id reccomend a technomate 1500 to start with (i have one for sale as it goes lol can list on here if any interest) i have a 1.1 mtr dish (more then likely bigger then you want) and a technomate 1900 and as above i can pick up near on everything and i mean '' everything '' but taking your lnb off the sky dish and putting it on another dish wont really be worth it as lnb's are so cheap
