Advice pls. Just found a security tag on my trousers

I bought a pair of trousers from Mc & Co today. I have just found a security tag on them. I really want to wear them tomorrow so I attempted to take the security tag off myself. In doing so I have made a hole in the fabric.
I have maganged to sew it up pretty neatly for an interview tomorrow but I really want to exchange them at the shop for an undamaged pair.

What are my legal rights if I wear them tomorrow, for the interview and then take them back? I would only want a straight exchange.

Pls be helpful cos I am really stressed about my interview.

hm, you could take them back for a replacement if they have a hole.

morally dubious, but they should exchange or even refund, worn or not,.

If you hadn't sewn them you wouldn't have had a problem, as you have i think it will depend on how nice the shop & staff are!

Just take them back and say you have just noticed the hole.

Good luck by the way. Prepare, your strengths, weaknesses, difficult situations you have done well in etc:thumbsup:

In terms of law, you'd have been entitled to take them back for a replacement while they still had the tag on them. They were essentially faulty at that point. Now though, since you've physically damaged the trousers while trying to repair them, you're SOL. Shops are only required to take stuff back if it was faulty when they sold them, or if they were of insufficient quality.

Law and customer services are different matters, though. You're in with a good shout if you take the trousers back with the security tag and explain what happened, since although you shouldn't have done what you did, it's their fault that you were forced to. Explain your case, be cool about it, and with a bit of luck, they'll swap them over without a problem. I would if I was on the other side of the customer services desk.

Just remember to take your receipt though, for obvious reasons...

my mum had the same problem with a leather jacket she bought, she just took it back to the shop and got it removed

I am feeling a lot calmer about it now. I was having a bit of a panic before wasn't I?

I have sewn them up for the interview, so I will be ok in them.

And in the long run, they are only a pair of trousers, worse things happen.

thanks to you all.
