I bought a TV less than a month ago from Argos. After a few days it started making a buzzing sound, not very loud but annoying when I was watching TV in bed.

I took the TV back to the shop with reciept and asked for a refund, the manager took it out of the box and switched it on, said she couldn't hear or see any fault so I could not get my money back. They could only send it away to be looked at. I told her that it sometimes took over an hour for the buzzing to start but she said that is all she could do.

Where do I stand on this. I thought within a month they had to refund?

Thanks

I took mine back after a week on the basis that I just didn't like the picture quality and they took it back no problems.

Argos still offer the supposedly 'No Quibble' money back guarantee?

If i were you, i would try again, you probably just got unlucky with the person on returns, you need to demand a refund and start quoting sale of goods act etc etc

It's now been three weeks as I didn't have a card to drive it into town again. Was going to try and take it to another argos today but just wanted to know where I stood if I get told the same thing again!

Go back and demand a refund or replacement, Don't let them fob you off. You have right''s Sales of good act should cover you.

Argos are hit and miss.... some women are so nice there and get it sorted straight away, some are "on" and are real barstewards! There are 2 things you can do
1) go to another shop and give it back ( i didn that as i had a similar problem with them)
B) kick up a real big fuss with swearing and the works, Ive seen this done and as embarrassing as this may be it can work.

Some managers want to calm you down and will give in, but be careful as this could backfire with a call to security lol.

Personally, apart from one incident its been fine but then again im not use to giving things back. But if you feel it is genuine then fight for it because they have nothing to loose.

Why not phone Argos CS, expalin your problem and see what they say, they may give clearance to the store to refund. I must say that Argos have never batted an eyelid at anything i have returned.

It does make wonder though just how many returns they get, what they do with them and how much they must 'lose' through them.

You must be a big mother for them not to quibble with you :D

Under S14 of the Sale of Goods Act 1979 there is the following condition that you should be able to rely on:

(2) Where the seller sells goods in the course of a business, there is an implied term that the goods supplied under the contract are of satisfactory quality.

(2A) For the purposes of this Act, goods are of satisfactory quality if they meet the standard that a reasonable person would regard as satisfactory, taking account of any description of the goods, the price (if relevant) and all the other relevant circumstances.

(2B) For the purposes of this Act, the quality of goods includes their state and condition and the following (among others) are in appropriate cases aspects of the quality of goods—

(a) fitness for all the purposes for which goods of the kind in question are commonly supplied,

(b) appearance and finish,

(c) freedom from minor defects,
(d) safety, and

(e) durability.

It's all very good blurting out the SOGA, but they are still within their rights to inspect the tv for the fault you're reporting. If on initial assessment they could not find the fault, they are entitled to take it away for further inspection.

But they didn't take it away, they just refused. They shouldn't do that.

Another Argos faulty product,
Take it back, it has a years manufacturers warranty anyway. They will either replace it or fix it.

Manager at the store is just being a dick, good luck. If you don't get any joy then just record the fault on a digicam or phone and show them.

Bit late to the thread mate - OP has already resolved the matter with Argos - who, incidentally didn't make the product as you seem to believe.

i don't believe they make the product, but Argos deals with any faulty appliance returns themselves (rather than you having to go back to the manufacturer).

I know they don't make the item. Argos deals with any faulty appliances within the first year.
Thanks Moobs

Took the TV back yesterday, returned and money back no problems. They didn't even open the box to check the TV was actually in it!!!!! Jeezo!!

Weird, I took a TV back to argos because the quality was not very good, they only just took it back. I think after 30 days they will send it away or refund/exchange at managers discretion. The only problem in this circumstance was that they could not see the issue, which is hard to diagnose.

recently bought a tv from Argos - quality of picture and sound not up to scratch. Hubby took it back - they refused refund as said it had been used (tuned in) how else would we be able to check picture and sound quality? also said it had a finger print on the screen - they took the tv away in the back of shop to check it - they could have done this? Anyhow hubby left the shop did a protest outside - manager mad - phoned the Police ! Who politely asked hubby and tv to move a few feet away from shop - they could not see a problem with hubbys protest. We are now stuck with the TV.

Try another stores. There's enough of them around. Gotta be worth the trip if you're not happy with the TV
