Hi all. My laptop has died and I'm worried I've lost a few months of pictures of the kids etc(havnt backed it up since aug tine).
I've been Reading what I can on my iPhone but was hoping someone could help me.

I'm I correct in assuming all my pictures etc will be on the gard drive and not the actual laptop?
If I buy one of these caddy or enclosure things and a new laptop would j be able to transfer the data from the current hard drive to the new laptop?
Finally, if the hard drive is the issue could I just buy a new one and put in existing laptop? How would I get vista on my laptop if I buy a new drive as it's ion my old one j think.

Sorry fir the spelling-iPhones not the best to use on a forum and any help is muchly appreciated.

Yes.

Yes, assuming you have a 2.5 inch HDU in the dead laptop, there are two different types, IDE or SATA. If in doubt both both types, they are very cheap on ebay.

Finally, if the hard drive is the issue could I just buy a new one and put in existing laptop?
Yes, assuming you have a DVD drive you can reload Vista from the supplied CD's or DVD's.

If you dont have these they the Laptop manufacture might supply them.

Do you have ANY signs of life from the laptop?

Take the hard drive out of the dead laptop . Link it to another PC or laptop using a IDE/SATA to USB device . Loads of places sell them , maplin ,ebay etc .It's a good safe way to transfer your data . I sometimes link the 2.5" drive directly to a PC using the adapters you an buy , just linking it to a spare IDE cable or socket on the board .
