Advice wanted from mums/dads with young babies...

My cousin and his wife have just had a baby and we were thinking of using some of our tesco vouchers to get a magazine subscription for them (already got them presents for the baby, but got some vouchers that expire at the end of the month so thought we would do this as well).

Tesco have 'mother and baby' magazine and 'prima baby' magazine subscriptions and I was looking for advice on which would be better for brand new parents.

All advice appreciated and repped

Mags are useless tbh.. it's advice from fellow parents that really helps- but saying that, my £4 voucher expired and i didn't realise it had already done so, called up tesco, and they replaced it the following month with a longer expiry date..
..also, tesco are doing the 'double up' voucher thing in-store at the mo, i'm wondering if you can purchase a 'gift' card with it? (doubtful) if not, then how about sommat big but with a gift receipt so they can exchange etc if they like? with a new bub, honestly, there's not much time to read mags! let us know what you decide to do.
congrats to your cus and wife!

all ive heard about prima baby has been really good, i use the bounty parenting site and some of the ladies read prima baby so it must be good.
i dont really hear much abut the mother and baby magazine, all i know is when i signed up to tescos baby club i used to get a magazine every quarter im sure it was the mother and baby mag free my boys are now 16 months and 3 years

If you already have them presents then what the hell, go for it if thats what you want to do. Anything is a lovely gesture

If not then id suggest using the vouchers to get them bigger baby clothes (6-9/9-12 months) as everyone seems to forget that babies grow quickly and you end up with millions of 0-3 months. I learned this the first time so I took back loads of tiny clothes and got them in bigger sizes xxx

Dont bother with mags, ask friends and family for advice, think they are a waste of time

If your clubcard vouchers are due to expire just ring them up and they will add them to you account and cancell teh old ones giving you a couple more years to use them

I got so much conflicting information from friends and family, one saying do this another do that. Mother & Baby in my eyes is the better of the two, and I still buy it now.

I think it's a nice idea hon, go for it. I would have been well happy as most of the time people tend to forget mum needs a treat now and again.

I loved magazines when I had my first - I'd buy every magazine available! lol

Of course learning from experience of your own and others was the best, but I still loved a good read

I think you should get mother and baby not the other one, as that has pregnancy advice, which doesn't apply once you've had baby - so a wasted section of the magazine!.

Wife still reads it even after no 3. It does tend to reapeat itself after a while.

I totally agree with Mother & Baby being the better of the two. I also think it's a lovely idea to get a magazine subscription  They do tend to repeat themselves, granted, but they're still a good read. I bought all the magazines while I was pregnant but once I had my children I stopped..although I think that was more to do with being so busy, having the real thing there and not feeling that overwhelming need to coo over the babies in the pictures and fantasize about the luxury baby items, lol.

Good on you, I'd be chuffed if someone got me this as a present - it would certainly make a change from all babygrows anyway!

I think it is a lovely present idea and something that i would have loved as a new mum. it shows that you are thinking of the parents as well as the new baby. I still have mags that I read when I first had my baby and still refer to them now.

Mother and Baby is a really good one or the other one I liked was Practical Parenting if they do that one.

But I say go for it and what a lovely friend you are!

Mother and Baby vote here, I'd be really happy with that as a pressie. I get it from our library and still like reading it even though I'm now on 2nd baby. Yes advice from family is nice but it's nice to have another opinion too. Plus once you've got baby magazines are a luxury buy so I'd love to have one delivered for free.

Well the mum likes reading mags and is going to be stuck in the house on her own with the baby, and they have no family near them so thought it would give her something to do while the baby was asleep

I was unsure about it, thats why I was asking on here.

Cant exchange them for giftcards and nothing else from tesco they would want/need

I was thinking of doing that, but no guarantee they will do that and think that they may be tougher about it now that they are doubling up the points and doing the instore double reward voucher things

Thanks for the opinions (including the - dont do it - ones, was expecting a few of those and are just as useful as the rest!)

    Keep 'em coming!

I have until the end of the month to spend the vouchers, so I may see if I can get instore and have a look at the clothes

Still interested in views on this though
