Advice wanted: Which PSP should I buy?

Hi guys,

I'm looking into buying a PSP within the next couple of months (I like to plan my purchases way in advance) and was wondering which of the many releases is the best to buy.

This obviously depends on what I want to do with the PSP though...

My interest is mainly about hacking or modding it (whichever it is) so that I can play PS1 games on it. And, if possible, I would like to be able to play NTSC PS1 games on it, since I currently don't have the ability to play certain games (chrono trigger...).

I know some models have better firmware or are easier to downgrade (I really know nothing about any of this yet) so I was just wondering if someone could advise me on which would be best for the PS1 games. I know there's a new one coming out soon but I heard it's harder to modify in this way. is this true?

thanks in advance

There have only been two PSP's released.

I have never put PS1 games on mine, so don't know which one is better, if any.

Both PSP phat and PSP Slim and Lite when modded will play PS1 games

ok thanks guys, might as well go for the slim or lite since it's slimmer and, presumeably, lighter

I thought you could mate with irshell or custom firmware extender? I know my friend has his Phat PSP connected to the TV someway.
