Advice with my contract... How to wangle a good new deal with o2?

I'm on a 12mth sim only deal with o2... paying £21/m for unlimited texts, 600mins, and 500mb web. The web is a bit slow, but other than that, fairly happy, despite being a bit expensive, but at home, I only get good signal on o2. I have an option to upgrade early, but my contract doesn't officially end for another nine weeks.
I'm dying for a new phone though, so instead of going with Vodafone, paying a little more it seems, and using one of their boxes that plugs into the wall for signal boosting, I think I want to upgrade with o2, cause I really need a new phone ASAP, my E71 is falling apart :(
O2 upgrades online offers me a Samsung Galaxy S II for £27/m, cutting my minutes back to 300, keeping ulimited texts, and 500mb of web. They want £50 for the phone. £27/m for 24m... even at 24m, not the even costlier 18m, it is a little more than I want to pay with uni starting in September though...
Looking back at my bills, 300min has been plenty for the last 6 months... I figure I can always upgrade to 600, but I can't downgrade...
Anyway, Carphone Warehouse will do the same deal at £27/m, with a free phone, so I figure I can get that from o2 if I threaten to pay off the last 9 weeks of my contract and leave, taking out the contract with o2, seems a plausible argument for getting the phone direct from o2 for free right?
Anyway, I want to see if they'll do the above contract for £25/m... but I don't know if they'll accept or even consider any mobiles.com style cashback/line rental redemptions deals I have seen (@about £25/m effective cost) - what do you think? If I refer to one of those deals, do you think they'll even consider that, since they were redemption based deals, making the effective cost about £25/m?
We have my contract, and one other with o2... the other has finished it's 12m now, mine still has 9 weeks left.
What can I say or show them to try to get the phone for free, and get £2/m off the £27/m? Am I dreaming, or is getting it down to £25/m plausible, considering some of the redemption based deals I have seen, with 600mins, and a free SGS 2 for effectively £25/m?
What's the liklihood of nabbing the phone for free, when CPW will give me the phone free for the same cost? What's the liklihood of getting £27/m down to £25/m? - how best to do so?
Please share any of your SGSII contract prices and O2 retentions experiences with me before I call up :)
