I dont know yet if they are going to go thru insurance so would it count against me if i informed them and then no claim was made by other party?

thanks in advance!

You are supposed to report any incident, whether either party is claiming or even if not your fault.

It will go against you renewal price-wise but if the 3rd party does decide to claim, then the fact that you haven't reported the incident will go against you, especially if the 3rd party try to exaggerate the claim or something :)

did you reverse into a car then, and was the damage really SMALL?

Yes you should report it

yep knocked front bumper off

The thing is though is that the front of cars seem to go so easily.

I touched the car in front of me in traffic years ago in my 206 and the other car had no damage whatsoever, nothing - my car however the front bumper was damaged and the bonnet bent upwards :w00t:

offer to pay the repair costs if the cost is small, they can get a quote from a garage. This is what I did when someone hit my car,no insurance companies were involved.

we were in a tiny accident just recently, our brakes suddenly didnt work due to wet weather and the car skidded over the puddles and was stopped by the back of a large white van in front of us.

we both got out and chatted, he had a ding on his car the size of a ten pence piece maybe, so he took our details and we didnt hear from him again.

Our car was damaged, the crash bar was severed and the bumper damaged. Cost about 800 to fix.

We have fully comp insurance but many years of no claims so we didnt mention it. We would have done if the other driver had wanted to.

You should be reporting everything, but common sense should tell you what will cost you more.

You should report it but if you do decide to settle with cash make sure you get them to sign the settlement receipt with full and final settlement on it...
