should set you back just over £25 per year but definately worth the money as long as you plan to use it. you can get one month free if you select silver membership under "join xbox live" it will say "you are eligible for one month free xbox live gold", and you can try it out and see if you like it. the wireless adapter should just plug in then search for your router type in your password and its done, so very easy unless your a complete n00b. not every game has xbox live although most do. the games that tend not to are terrible or single player orientated (fallout 3, oblivion..) but these games will usually have DLC (downloadable content). you can still talk to people in party chat even when a game doesnt have game chat itself. xbox live is awesome for online play and demo downloads. I would consider using an ethernet cable straight into your modem or router as it gives a better connection and loads cheaper.

thank you genetlemans so very much for the great advise - certainly as helped clear up some issues/concerns i had.

i will be a casual gamer, hence i believe silver membership would be fine, however any idea on the key difference between silver and gold membership? also are these codes you purchase and enter once online?

thanks in advance

xbox live gold lets you play online and xbox live silver just lets you communicate with people, watch dashboard videos, download (some) DLC etc.... try my method to get gold and see if you like it. if you want to know anything else feel free to pm me
