Affiliation revenue through webclicks - how does it work?

I've just set up a new website for my partner and I think's it's got legs in terms of being a pretty attractive place for suppliers to advertise through.

Apart from the Amazon affiliation program, I know nothing about gaining revenue from having visitors click through or place orders with suppliers featured on the site.

Any ideas?

It's a cookery/recipe site by the way so lots of opportunity.

register on some networks like affiliate window, tradedoubler, buyat, affiliatefuture. when registered you can apply to merchants on that network, when they accept you, you can place a link on your website that will track any sales made.

Good info!
So in terms of them 'accepting' you, does that depend on the website etc?

it would yes, some have it automatically set to accept while most larger companies like boots choose to review your site first before accepting. obviously they dont want their brand to be advertised with inappropriate sites or sites would damage their image.

Unless you get lots of visitors, its a bit pointless.

You might make 50p a year! X)

gambling sites with ongoing revenue can be good if they fit with your site

Not really whatI had in mind.
Ideally, I'd like to approach stores (boutiques and larger stores) and advise them that when they have special offers, or when Jenny (my partner) uses a really nice cookery item that she would want to promote, I can present them with a self working 'affiliation' rather than just a link.

Just trying to get my head around the best way to do it!

Apparently I can't link to the site! Although it's not up an running, and not finished! And in no way can be deemed self promotion (because it's not mine and there's nothing being sold on it to gain revenue!!!
Thanks Mods!
