after having earlier windows 32 error got upgrade disc, which hubby stuck in not waiting on me to get home and tell him to save data externally first.
now cant find any of the photos or docs,
he told me it said they would save but we cant seem to find them in old windows that it said it would be in
are they lost altogether or hidden somewhere i can find.
help please the air is blue round here and gonna be long weekend if he lives to see rest of it.

It should have saved in the windows.old folder

If its not there, then it doesn't look good. Only option I think is some kind of recovery tool

I'm sure they're in a folder somewhere. Get the search menu up and search *.jpg (or just set it to search for Pictures). Remember to tell it to search everywhere too.

P.S. Windows Vista and 7 have a new folder stucture for your documents. There's no "My Documents" anymore (which has the "My Pictures", etc inside). Go to Computer > C (or whatever your drive letter is) > Users > yourUserName

Wikipedia says that they added the "My" back on, but that's just how it appears. The true name of the folder is still "Documents", "Pictures", etc.

Wikipedia

As of Windows 7, The "Documents", "Pictures", "Music" and "Videos" folders appear displayed in Windows Explorer with a "My" prefix but are actually still stored in the file system without the prefix (as in Windows Vista).

Have you got your favourites saved from your internet browser? Do you use webmail or a mail client on your PC, if the latter have you copied your mail? Are there any problems you use that you save specific data for that may not be in your general my documents folder?

OP did you find out why you had a 32 error ?
Did you delete a file or did a Virus corrupt it ?
I would not suggest a upgrade if it's due to a virus & would suggest a clean install of windows.

keep windows.old for a few months. Its not doing any harm!

and learn a lesson by backing up all your important data
