We are going to Greece (to get married!!) in 2 weeks for 2 weeks, and have been told air con would be 199Euros... this seems very expensive? This is our first ever family holiday, other half has never been abroad before, and last time I went was 10 years ago when i was 13 with the parents, so I have no idea on what sort of price to expect, 199Euros just seems a hell of alot!!!

I have seen people on forums talking about this but never heard of it myself-neither I nor anyone I know has ever been asked to pay for aircon.

Have been to athens a few times in october and would agree that you are hardly likely to need it anyways.

I've had to pay for Air Con in Cyprus on a couple of occasions and I think it was about £5 a day (cyp pounds -now euros so not sure how much that would be) but knowing this on other visits we found some of the larger supermarkets sold full size electric fans for about £10 so we used to just buy a couple of these, worked out much cheaper, and on leaving would give them to the staff.

Same thing happened to me. Except we rented fans instead of air cons. (which cost half the price) That didn't work though...so back to A/C we went!

We went to Halkidiki (mainland Greece) last year and paid 5 euros per day, we didn't bother on the first day coz we're cheap skates but were so glad we got it for the rest of the holiday.
