Air Rifles - Advice Please
Just looking for some advice, don't want to start a big debate.
I have a problem with rats in the garden, and as my garden backs onto a river they are bigguns. The only thing is these guys arent shy and keep creeping into the garden during the day. I'm a bit worried that they might have a nip at one of my kids. Dont want to put traps or poison down as cant risk the ducks or other creatures (or kids)...
So, thought i would resort to taking pot shots at them out the bedroom window so need it to be effective from about 30 feet. When i say effective i mean either;
A - Kill them
B - Scare them
I don't want anything in between as don't want to leave some poor creature in agony.
Any advice please?

I was actually thinking about buying a BB gun to shoot seaguls going after everyones bins (sick of other peoples rubbish lying around), found an airsoft gun for £14.99, bullets are cheap too, but not sure about the legality of it
just what you need as above...LOL

We had them 2 years ago and it worked well for us, although when it came to killing them I must admit I hid indoors with my hands over my ears. I love all creatures and couldn't face the inevitable, hubby did that bit.
whats that mr seagul? your hungry? well, do ya feel lucky punk, well do ya?
well its better because they can kill rats and works on thei hand eye coordination.... better than the wii imo.
OP can you not get a jack russell...... those dogs go crazy for rats.
One thing I do know is you need to be at least 50 feet away from a public highway.
Rats often live near rivers. Either get used to the idea or move.
Wild rats will always look for easy food sources.
You need to address that issue to encourage them to look elsewhere rather than actually close to your house.

For the purposes of the thread, assume that the OP is a responsible person who will keep the gun locked away in a regulation cabinet away from the kids and not leave it lying around the house like a yokel.

How much do you charge for your Rat Whispering services?
Used to shoot for maybe 5-6 years as a boy, havent done it in years but i would say my aim is decent.
Live in Fordingbridge, just outside the New Forest, I only like the idea of the rifle because eventually its also something i can do with my boys (when they get a bit older)
Yes, i believe so.
Ive got a cat, but these rats are huge and i dont fancy her chances against them.
Would love to get a dog, but both me and my wife work fairly long hours and travel too much for more than 1 pet. We already have the cat, but she comes and goes as she pleases so is easier to care for.
