All Internet p*rn “To be blocked” in the UK

"In a move that smacks of the draconian Internet laws in place in countries like Australia, the UK government has plans to ask ISPs to block all pornography from home Internet connections by default, it’s reported today. Under the plan, customers would have to ask the ISP for access to pornography."

Just saw this being discussed over on my ISP's forum.

So who will be asking their ISP to allow them access?

+1 lol

Won't somebody please think of the children?

I am more bothered about how this is going to hike prices on broadband packages. This sort of blocking costs a fair bit of money and I doubt ISP's will be taking it out of their profit margin. I bet there hundreds of websites popping up every hour.

Be grateful. The idea is to protect kids from the evils of porn. They're looking after your interests.

(Yes, I'm 50 still)

Is HUKD even safe? I have heard some rumours about private messages on here containing some nude content lol

Maybe they will block that section until you ring your ISP and opt-out, just in case someone sends you a photo of their moobs.

Porn is evil.

It's impossible and im sure somewhere it will class as breach of human rights. The government cant sort out snow on the roads how do they intend to stop the most searched thing on the internet?

What are you on about? Have you read the article, or even the title post here? If you want it you can have it. You only have to ask. Walk into a sex shop and count how many porn dvds they give you before you ask for one.

Thats surely just an adult block then, not just aimed towards pornography? regardless it wont happen

It's impossible

Just think of parental control installed at your ISP. It is not impossible, its pretty simple really.

Other countries already do this and do it quite well. We are already having pages censored by the IWF (although I think all of us would agree what they do is a good thing), although they have been known to overstep the mark.

The real issue with the above was that the IWF made it appear as if the page was just missing in error and wasn't informing us that it was actually blocked by them. So invisible censorship we basically have no idea of or control of.

Conservatives in 'nanny state' shocker???!!!!!

I thought that was Labour's job.
#28
It is impossible, countries such as china block facebook, you can still "work" around it, Anyways it will never happen theres far more useless things the government will mess with 1st.
#29
The blocking of porn isn't the issue but that the government wants tighter control over what can be accessed. If MP's are concerned about kids accessing grot then educate the bloody parents rather than turning the country into a nanny state. Put that alongside Ed Vaizey's comments against net neutrality and it all stinks to high heaven.

One short step away from throwing up a government firewall, China style.

There will be one website left, and that will be called bringbacktheporn.com

tbh though I can't see the problem, make a simple form to fill in online so it's anonymous (but secure) that you want it back - job done. Stupid people who don't know how to set up security to stop little johnny having a look wouldn't have to worry as it would be blocked by default

Non news even if it did happen - Contrary to what the headline initially reads as......

From a business point of view if a customer agrees to opt out from the start and never opt in during your contract, they'd never need offer it, if you ask for it you give notice to leave.

Done. No need to increase cost on customer then.

I can fast see ISPs offering "value opted out" services.

I've been using the internet for over 15 years nanny programs have been around for ages, why pay an ISP to do it?
Parents should be doing this not ISPs

Wishful thinking I know.
#37
I don't see how they could stop most porn downloads imo, have an effect sure, stop, not in a million years, will also drive it more underground even if it is optin, is that really SAFER for children

I think it has nothing to do with 'porn', it's just a easy way to get the infrastructure in place so they can start adding things like direct download services and torrent sites to the banned list at a later date.
#39
meh, will hardly have any effect if they can't stop torrent sites across the world or wikileaks, whatta waste of time

Wonder when that anti porn bloke who had a thread on here ages ago claiming blue movies to be the greatest of all social ills will turn up to support this? (_;)
