So I spent a weekend away with the kids and missus, travelled to Alton Towers Friday and checked into the hotel etc. To cut a long story short had 2 days in the park planned. At 4am of our only overnight stop in the resort the hotel fire alarm went off and by the time the fire brigade and resort staff declared the hotel safe to enter it was (0615) we had to sit in the lobby with other guests for over 2 hours.
I don't have a problem with being evacuated because of a fire, and to be fair the staff and resort handled the incident really well. My issue is that my daughters 2nd day in the park was ruined because of this neither could barely stay awake after 1300 and both got rather grumpy (the youngest giving up and falling asleep). Alton Towers have compensated us with 4 x passes for a return to the theme park in the next year, which I thought was fair enough. My missus on the other hand thinks we should of been partially refunded instead. The refund to be fair would be better as we had no intention of going back (much as we enjoyed it|) at any time in the future 3.5 hour drive is a canny way to travel for a day out.
What would you do in this situation? I believe we've been fairly compensated (all other guests received the same compo), my wife thinks not.
