Always haggle with Dell!

Just to say that despite the fantastic deals that Dell are banging out recently, you should still get on the phone to their sales people.

I've bought 3 machines from them for friends recently including the fab £328 machine and a couple of Laptops. The last laptop also included the 5% code posted here

Anyway, on all of the deals I've ended up getting another tenner off by ringing them up and negotiating over the on-screen price.

Start off looking for another £30 (or free delivery if not already included) and get haggling. Tell them you are ready to buy right now, and keep pushing. You'll get your tenner.

I just got a Dimension 9200 with a Quad Core, 2GB RAM, 500GB Hard Drive (2x250GB), and an 8800GTX! for £650 inc vat & del by haggling over the phone for a couple of days. Also comes with the usual, vista, works, mouse, keyboard, ect.. just no monitor.

Same system cost £911.74 if you do it online.

dont suppose you have name and number of sales person so ican try and get same deal?
#4
I'll give the number out as soon as mine dispatches or gets delivered.

At the moment its on pre production stage, and I don't want him cancelling it because I told everyone on HUKD his reference number and price he offered me, he might get pissed.

However as soon as delivery comes, I'll give all his number.

BTW these Dell boys are real del boys! He was like "I'm a sales accountant for Dell Business specially ringing you up because you've called 15 or so times, and I want to sort this out for you. The lowest price I can give you is £670, and there is no one at dell who can give you lower for the same spec, I don't even do home sales, but I rang you specially because you've been ringing up so many times. I can't go lower than £670." After 40 mins on the phone I said I'm not going to buy it and after all his continuous "£670" is the best price, he said "are you willing to buy it today, right now on this phone call", and I was like "only if it was within my budget of £650 I would buy it right now, but I'm not going over my budget"; then if by magic, he got my comp down with the exact same spec (I have invoice too), for exactly £650 inc vat and del.

BE PERSISTANT!

Also a tip is to withhold (141) your number, and call in the evening (4pm over) as your more likely get an indian and these are the only ones who you can haggle with; all the english sales people don't give a **** and won't bend the price at all.

Also they'll ask for you name and telephone number (since you withheld it), just give your name and say your looking for a quote and don't want to give a telephone number (be firm). They register how many times your telephone number has rung them in a day and may ring you back and tell you to stop ringing or even worse use it against you saying you've rung this many times and haven't got the price from anyone else, why am I any different.

However if you do ring them continuously, you may get a call from a business accountant like I did and be in realy luck.

Last and BIG tip! Say you were quoted £650 for the PC by antoher rep, but had to go out in a rush and didn't write down the extension number. Make it believable.

Good luck.

When calling the Dell sales people, what's the best way to approach the conversation? -- "Hello, I'm after a Vostro 1400. What's the best deal you can offer me? £550, that's too high. Can you go lower?"

Something like the above?

Also, if you happen to get a really good deal and place the order, then phone up later and threaten to cancel, is there a good chance they'll improve the deal?

Fisrt off the 9 cell battery on the 1700, 1500 and 1400 does stick out. Fullest Empty i got the Vostro 1400 ar the specs below for £581 but another member here got ir for £560:

T7100 processor (1.8GHz, 2mb cache, 800fsb)
2GB Ram
160gb hhd
Truelife screen (1440x900)
9 cell battery
8400 GS graphics card
Intel Wireless N card
Vista Home Premium
Dell Travel Remote
Dell Noise Isolation Earbuds.

In the end i emailed Customer Care after I placed my order about the long delays, miss information, my emails being ignored etc and they lowered my price to £521!! But you wont be able to get it that low through the sales separtment. Get the good deal out of the sales department and then email customer care after to try and get a further discount.

Fullest Empty i will pm you the del reps details that i brought it from.

Use the 7 day return policy once you recieve the Dell. That way they'll offer you £50 before your sure you want to return it. Also ask for a refund for Windows Vista because you haven't accepted the EULA.
