Am I the only one who always finds New Year's celebrations a complete anti-climax and waste of time?

10 ... 9 ... 8 ... 7 ... 6 ... 5 ... 4 ... 3 ... 2 ... 1 ... Hurrah it's midnight!!

Am I missing something? To me it feels like midnight every other day of the year ... and just as (un)exciting!

I know I'm in my mid 30's so might already be on my way to becoming a Victor Meldrew, but got to say that from the age of 10 or so when I first stayed up to "see the new year in", I've never really understood the point?

Heh but seriously I and my family always stay up and as soon as it hits 12:00am Jan 01 theres a group hug fact is alot of bad things happened in the year and when its a new year you want to start fresh and pray for a better year.

I dunno about when you're 30, but when you're 15 you really look forward to it.

A good excuse to get trashed and do whatever you want without having to think about the consequences.

New Years is great!!! Out with the old and in with the new and all that :)
If you keep thinking "What's the point, this is rubbish..." Then you're not likely to enjoy yourself-

Totally agree with the you Shieldsy.

Every year the same drunken hypocrisy
Broken resolutions, false friends trying to shake your hand or even worse frustrated Aunties smelling of lavender trying to steal a kiss or worse.
Auld Lang Syne bellowed out by tone deaf people who have no intention of remaining your aquaintance for the next 24 hours let alone 52 weeks.
Children hyper active because they've been allowed to stay up so late. Tomorrow will be tantrum day through over tiredness.
Enough alchohol being consumed to prop up the economy of several third world countries.
And most of the country either suffering a hangover or depression the next day.

And of course if you don't join in the "celebrations" you're the devil reincarnated, a truly miserable person who has no life (or real friends) and you get disowned by your family, relatives and friends until the same time next year when they try and press gang you into the same sordid, sorry affair.

A truly awful evening made just about bearable by Jools Holland, a cup of hot chocolate and 2 duvets.

Happy New Year ? Bah !

I feel exactly the same, to me its just another evening, yes its a new year but i dont see the whole * new year* epic
Id much rather spend the evening, with my family, children and people I love than going out, getting wrecked and hugging random people who you dont know.
I mean what is the point?
Maybe im getting old but I think you should cherish every day not just one a year.

New Year is very overated...........especially if you're Chinese as it's just another day for them. :p

I agree to be honest. Like Christmas too - if we were smart enough we'd wait until the 27th before buying gifts, they'd be half the price we'd pay if we were buying late, say on the 24th.

I do like New years because i get to see all the family i only see a few times a year, but i dont see the point i hurrahing at 12am and waking the people up next door!!

i know what you mean, i remember when i was younger my mum had a party, i was really excitied then the moment the big countdown, and i remember thinking is that it...............im 21 and i can't be botthered going out waiting to get in somewhere then being lined up at a bar waiting to be served for god knows how long

i'm same here, have had my clubbing days, now we spend it indoors with the kids, playing games, just another day/night to us, i enjoy christmas far more.

Definitely not, there's millions of us out here -otherwise why would the telly people put on special dreadful shows to emphasis the point? They might as well just put up a card reading [COLOR="DarkRed"]'Wot, not wanting to go out in the heaving drunk mobs and fall over, vomit and fail to kiss any one at midnight? Call yourself British?'[/COLOR] They just want to go home and put their feet up with a nice glass of something, a DVD and proper friends/family themselves.:friends:

im 21 and feel the same, new year is so over rated, so this year im not going no clubbing instead im gonna spend it with the one person who means the most to me just watching a dvd. :)

Now to me thats far better than being in a club

I am 20 and I find New Years Eve is now just an excuse to drink yourself stupid. What's the point in going out, spending a fortune on alcohol, being stuck in a sweaty, hot club or bar (which you have most likely paid for the priviledge to enter!) with hundreds of drunk people who either want to grope you or have a fight? Not my idea of fun!

I will be spending tonight with my family and my boyfriend, we are going to order a chinese take-away, play on my Nintendo Wii and watch some movies.

Im single so usually alone, unless kids manage to last till midnight, but even when i waspart of a couple i found it rather boring, to many expectations really, and although its bringing in a new year it doesnt leave the bad stuff behind, they usually just chuffin follow me:oops:

To be honest i kind of feel the same, BUT i after iv had a couple of drinks my mood totally changes

i love having a drink and having a laugh, if its new year and your a bit drunk its BRILLIANT !

W stay up as it would just seem wrong not to, this year there is just me, Hubby and youngest daughter, we are going to have lots of food, drink and play DVD games.

You have to let the new year in!!! :-D
