I have always eaten a lot of chocolate - bars and bars a day and never really put on weight until I had my children (4.5 years ago).. Oh my god, I'm paying for it now. Anyway, went on a diet last year and lost just over 2 stone for the summer, but after my hol. gave up and have now put it all back on so I'm determined to do it again for this summer. I do the kellogs diet (one/two bowls a day and one normal meal). I am really struggling. I've been on and off for the past two/three weeks. I keep saying 'I'll start monday; but then come lunch I'm eating choc. so I say ok I'll start tomorrow and the same thing happens. I can't seem to get by a single day without it. The thing is it gets to the afternoon and I start to shake!!!!!! This happened today, so I went in to the cupboard and scoffed 3 cadbuty's cream eggs in one go. I stopped shaking after that. It seems to be a NEED for chocolate. Am I a chocoholic??????

I think it is probably a drop in your blood sugar from being hungry that has you running for the chocolate. You should try eating small healthy meals frequently throughout the day to stop you being hungry at odd times instead of eating cereal for breakfast and lunch

Ermm.......I should say so!:?

I like choccy meself, always have done....but 3 cream eggs in one go? I would feel very sick after that!

If you can't resist just do not buy it,if it's not in the house you cannot eat it.Stock up on yoghurts or something instead.(or maybe those Options choccy drinks)

You need willpower,girl.....it's gonna be tough, but you need to do it!!

I second that. I don't snack if it isn't in the house. The walk all the way to the shop puts you off snacking:)

I agree with you and usually I would make sure it's not in the house but as easter has just gone and I have 2 youngan's there's quite a bit of it at home at the moment. Thanks for replying tho x x

If you can keep off it for a week you wil be fine, you're body will then be re-trained and stop craving it. Seen a doc say it on tv once. :)

I think you're probably right butmy problem is, anything more interesting than cereal and it won't stop there, I'll just carry on until I'm full!!

Think of your poor teeth ... all that damage the chocs will do. I agree with pink kItty, don't go on fad diets they don't work - the minute you come off one of them diets you will pile the weight back on!
Smaller meals regularly is much better than 3 large meals. Go for foods with a lower glycemic index (GI) as these are meant to sustain you for longer and curb your cravings for fast foods such as chocs.
here is a link to some info on GI foods: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glycemic_index
Hope this helps!

I watched one of paul mckenna;s shows,
He said to stop yourself enting til your full you must
1) Learn to eat slowly, chew your food slowly and properly
2) put your fork/spoon down whilst you do this
3) learn to rate yourself on your fullness, don't eat til you can't eat no more - that's when the damage gets done!

Taking your time eating will make you feel full alot quicker and you will probably end up leaving some of your food as a consequence, which is not a bad thing. We all as children get told to eat all our food up and we have conditioned ourselves into thinking we still have to do this in adulthood! Leave whatever you want and feel no guilt, it's fine as long as you feel full (not bloated)

Just thought I'd pass it onto you;-)

You really can be addicted to chocolate. I suggest you get some GOOD plain 70 - 80% cocoa solids chocolate. A couple of squares are really enough if you suck them slowly. This works for me!

cadbury light chocolate mouse has only 60 cals and is yummy! Maybe a good alternative.

I have started a diet this week and this is day 7 now. I have suprised myself at how I haven't craved chocolate (choccie biscuits are my weekness) so I don't think it is really addictive.

BTW, I didn't picture you being size 50!
I am a size 8 but I have a really tiny frame and I put on over 7 pounds at xmas, blobby belly and hips. I'm trying to do the same as you - my weakness is biscuits, I've cut them down a bit and go for long brisk walks, seems to be working. There's no overnight cure sadly and I hate the thought of going to sweaty gyms!:-D

Start first by gradually slowing down on the amount of choc you eat and then once you've reached the point where you think you can give up try and when you get the urge for chocolate how about looking to eat something that tastes like it but not as bad for you?
Hope i helped

imo, the body (and mind) are at the mercy of conditioning and precedent, i.e. if you get in to a 'bad' habit it is hard for your mind (and body) to resist it, hence you feel you 'need' chohcolate when in reality it is purely a desire. I have suffered eating disorders to a lesser and greater extent for nearly twenty years - what works for me is:

exercise - even a modest amount regularly can have massive effects [physically and mentally]
avoid naughty foods - they never fill you up and can incite a 'binge'
learn to ENJOY food - not just treats but all the amazing foods on the planet - what variety we have at our disposal

and lastly, don't punish yourself, everyone has off-days, the key is to make them few and far between not regular.

don't completly cut out chocolate, it won't work. so as badmanmeow said, just cut out little amounts at a time, u shouldnt have drastic changes in dieting in one go, the body needs it changing gradually :-)

You get the same type of kick from coffee - so if weight is the issue try taking a cup of black coffee when you feel the urge. But not too often of course, no need to swap one addition for another. But you'll probably tell me you already take 10 cups a day - like me :-(
#23
Lol, no, that's the only healthy thing I do - drink water and only water, unless I'm on the raz of course - which isn't very often these days!!!!!

its ok your addiction for chocolate cant be near as serious as the one i have for tomato ketchup. 2 bottles a week and have it on nearly everything i eat (within reason).

I know where your coming from, iv put on weight and been struggling. In work everyone sits around eating choccy, pie n chips etc.
This is a nightmare.
For one week now ive given up all junk food INCLUDING chocolate. I AM A chocoholic! i get very irritable if i dont have choccy! Ive resulted in having a muller corner each day with the chocco flakes as my choccy intake. ( vertually nil but my brain thinks im eating choccy!)

But a week later my jeans are looser and i feel better ( but tired alot )
good luck

Definately your blood sugar levels dropping that is making you shake cos I get the same when I'm on a strict diet and I hardly ever eat chocolate, you need to eat good carbs things that release sugars slowly (bananas, brown bread, oats ect) if you get a chocolate craving have a cup of those hot chocolate options drinks, they're yummy (only 40 cals) if you add a couple of sweeteners then they taste really sweet and should curb your cravings ! Don't deny yourself everything though be good for 6 days then have a treat day, I used to do this and still lost weight.

Just to let you all know I lost 5lb this morning even though I ate three cream eggs!!! I was really strict after that though x Thanks for all your advice x x
