Am I being screwed over by Three?

Right, I think I need help...

I've recently finished my 18 month contract with three and have now joined Vodafone.

My first payment for the contract was January 2008 and the last payment was on May 2009. This makes 17 payments by direct debit and I understandably need to pay one more. However, today i received a bill through for two months payment. This means that I would have made 19 payments on my 18 month contract.

It doesn't end there, I rang up the customer service and they went on to say that after I had paid for these 2 months, Another payment of £26 for my line rental would come out on the 3rd of August.

Now correct me if i'm wrong, but this makes 20 payments for my 18 month contract. What is going on?

im assuming you wrote to cancel your contract, not just assumed it finished after 18 months

I rang them up and cancelled using thirty days notice... The letter I received for two payments explains that the account is closed.

When did the contract actually start (not the date the first payment came out)...?

30 days notice 30 days before your contract was up? if so you should only have 18 dd paid

Contract started on... 18/12/07

Yep thirty days exactly, the person on the phone confirmed that my contract would be cancelled.

I think you will find it's an 18 month contract PLUS 30 days
ie you should pay 19 monthly payments
( rushes off to three's website to check it's the same as Orange!! )

i would say your last bill should be 18 june 09, what does it say in the letter of the cancellation date, surely you asked them on the phone why this is?

With 3 you dont write to cancel your contract, has to be done over the phone so they can verify your details and password

It says nothing of the date that it was cancelled... "It just says I am writing to confirm that your above account has been closed. It has been brought to our attention that there is an outstanding balance... bla bla £54.56"

The letter is dated July 13... I remember cancelling my contract mid May and having it confirmed by three customer service.

I hope its not true ( for your sake and pocket!! )
I have read the t&c's on the website but they are only
brief, you need to check your contract/phone them to confirm........

it sounds like they have not taken your notice, phone them back and ask them when you cancelled and ask them why you have to pay more

Right, good news...

Just rang up three for the third time! The lady confirmed that it was an error, and I only owe one months payment which makes 18 payments!

I don't think i'll ever be going back to Three any time soon! Thanks for the help guys

to be fair to three they made a mistake and rectified with fairly little hassle, they are the kind of companies that i would re-use.
