I still complain.

it's not wrong to not vote. i've never voted too and don't plan to.
for a simple reason:
whoever wins, the government will still suck
#4
gotta vote..... just gotta!
#5
apparently lots of single votes add up to make a difference! - but hey i still never have lol
#6
If you don't have a clue you shouldn't vote.

I will be able to vote soon and my vote (being a very influential person) will probably change the UK for the better.
#7
If you don't vote, that's up to you, but by not voting you're choosing to give up your voice... so shut up moaning or vote.. lol

One vote is not a voice.

I like to think I'm fairly clued up, I have strong opinions on politics and I think that maybe that's the problem. Once you get into a bit a geopolitics and even local stuff, you realise how inconsequential your one vote is.

If everyone thought like that...that would add up to a lot of votes and it would make a heck of a difference... people fought for the right to vote!

How many people have two votes?

if 1000 people all thought that way and all thought the same party should be in charge......but all didn't bother to vote because it was "just one vote"
#13
Yes you're wrong.
#14
You are free to vote, or not vote. However, if you don't vote you are giving up your right to moan about whoever is elected. If you don't like any of the main parties then you can always vote for one of the other ones.

Again, I'm just speaking about me. My one vote would not have changed the outcome of any of the elections in my lifetime.

Besides, whoever I vote for a politician would get in.

I can still moan, moreso because I'm not responsible for who got in. The other parties are at best single issue 'protest' parties, or far right thugs. Might as well not vote.

you are missing the big picture... voting is up to you...
BUT if everyone thought the same...that a lot of votes going to waste and those votes could change who comes into power.

You are responsible for who gets in...what if the majority in your local elections is just one vote... what if you voted? that could mean a whole world of difference.

So...no...don't moan!

It's nice that you think that, but my vote wouldn't make any difference. Even if it did, I don't like politicians.

Maybe one who felt that they had to be honest with the public to EARN that vote. But if the people continue to think that not voting is wrong, then they really don't need to.

Actually...you know what...I don't think the country is missing out on your vote anyway... your mark on the paper would probably be invalid.

Why make this thread if you don't want answers like mine?

I think you will find I have never said not voting is wrong. It's up to you. But remember. Some people in some countries are not that fortunate.... there are great crimes committed against people in some countries because they DARE to vote.
#25
Lots have fought (and died) for the privilege, you just have to put a cross in a box - poor you

If you don't like the choice, get on the list yourself, if you can't be bothered you have no right to complain

Because I thought maybe someone could come up with a decent argument and restore my faith in democracy.

As for my vote, it would be worth just as much as your's. Maybe worth even more because I don't feel I have a 'duty' to vote.

Maybe if there was a bigger ideological difference in the two main parties, rather than continually going for the 'middle class' masses.

The op can't seem to see this.
Perhaps they are not very old and have a limited amount of life experience. I certainly didn't have a clue when I first got the right to vote.

Unfortunately, the system is designed to maintain the status quo.

It's funny to me that people fought the nazis so some people nowadays could vote for nazis. Off topic but you've got to love the irony.

I do see it. Age is no indication of intelligence. No party addresses my issues, and I don't see fit to vote just to appease those who have faith in our democracy.

Also, why should I vote when my informed vote is worth the same as some nincompoop who votes the way their newspaper tells them?

Surely chosing not to vote is just another aspect of true democracy.
#34
another thing, by not voting, the likes of the BNP get up to 5% and dont lose their deposit - or even worse they get elected

plus for example if lots vote green the rest of the politicians realise they have to "green" their policies...

Is having a Prime Minister that nobody in the country even had a chance to vote for the sign of a true democracy?

An interesting question. Should I vote for somebody just to stop facist, racist muppets getting into power?

I work for the council and I am also a presiding officer at any election - I think it is a shame that so many people don't vote at our last election (for a ward councillor) only 23% turned out to vote - we are open for voting from 7am to 10pm it may take up a few minutes of your time but I think it makes a difference
