Amazing how deals can go freezing well below 100 without a single comment why?

Always amazed me how deals can go so cold without anyone making a single comment? Is this just lazy voting because it's so easy to click cold without having to explain your reasoning.

It's alright, I posted a deal a few days ago for a lynx set which was half price at boots, got a lot of cold votes...

Yesterday someone posted it and it got over 100 degrees and was posted on HUKD Twitter page, but has been removed

To be fair I'd vote that cold too. Tesco were £1.37, the boots 50% sale comes across as expensive. The starting price of £6.50 is a piddle take in the first place. You can frequently get the Body Wash or Deodorant for about £1.50 separately. So at £3.25 I get to bin more rubbish.

To answer the OP. Some deal get repetitive so people will vote, without repeating themselves. Others are sheep while some are bumbling idiots that are detrimental to the site no matter what they do.

Sheep do follow another in front (a leader, or an elder member of the flock), but this is conditioned from birth, not something that requires thought; it is a natural instinct & is effectively "hard-wiring".

Perhaps you can show Leadersheep qualities & correct their poor sense of individualism regarding their voting rights.
#12
Well not necessarily,

The spray is the new aftershave spray stuff they recently brought out which retails at £6. The hair gel is around £3/4 and a spray of deodorant is around £2 so that totals around £12 for the retail price. Just depends how much you think the trimmer is worth?

Surely saving £2 and getting a free trimmer (or however you price the trimmer) looking at the retail perspective is a better deal than buying separately

But each to their own I guess

Do people HAVE to comment? There are quick access buttons on the app allowing you to vote either way. Doesn't require a comment each time surely? If a comment was expected or required, then the app would be designed in a way to force a comment before the vote was registered. HUKD doesn't discriminate between votes with or without comments. And personally I think that is fair enough.

A few years ago HUKD told me off for leaving some cold votes without saying why, my response was that I also leave hot votes sometimes without saying why, depending on how much time I have. The app allows for quick voting without comments having to be made, so if Its that much of a problem then don't allow votes (either way) to register until a comment is placed.

Thanks everyone points taken on board. My generall feeling though is that some people cannot put personal preferences to one side even if a deal is a good deal.
I would never vote cold on an Iphone deal, even though I am not an Iphone type of person. If the deal was a good deal it would be hot no matter what my preferences are.

I had a similar interaction; well, not quite that, as I was just told my voting rights had been removed because I had voted negatively too many times* without leaving a reason even though (seen below) "...we cannot be too strict with regards to forcing members to justify their votes".

* Primarily on "Deals" submitted by the Moderators of this site.

I responded to say that I also vote positively without leaving comments, but that was not considered prior to the decision.

--- Some 'standard' text I often post when discussions around this subject occur ---

The best "Deal" is a subjective view of anything to do with the product thread (such as the merchant's past history, the non-guaranteed cashback, the colour/dimensions of the item, any comparative products, the day of the week, whether the member voting had run out of butter for their morning toast, or anything else connected/unconnected with the "Deal"), apparently.

A previous thread of note...

Can we please have the rules/guidelines on Voting made more clear??

Specifically, comment #56...
juliet_bravo - Aug 23, 2010 14:42

Taken from the original help & advice panel-

If you are cold voting a deal, it is good forum etiquette to post a note in the deal as to why you have done so. There is nothing more confusing to a new member, than to post a deal, only to see it go cold with no explanation. If you found the item cheaper elsewhere, please let us know where and how. If you have no interest or knowledge about the deal at all, please don’t vote cold, just move on.

HUKD has systems in place to detect serial cold voters, and it may lead to a ban from the forums, as it is against the code of conduct.

If members feel an apple product, for example, is comparable with another item and they do not think the apple represents good value, then of course they should state that within the thread. However we cannot be too strict with regards to forcing members to justify their votes. It will be detrimental to how the site works and the organic nature in which "hot" deals are voted as such.

Also, "Cold Voting", & the ironically-titled "EXPIRED - Can you get banned for voting cold too often?" (created by a member that is now banned).

There used to be a whole lifetime's worth of discussion(s) on the subject, but the following "tags" were removed recently:

You could use the Advanced Search Results for "cold", if you wish, though.

I have a personal policy that I don't vote on something unless I am 100% sure it's either a brilliant deal or really is terrible ,regardless of how the heat is looking , so therefore it's highly unlikely you will ever find my vote on electrical/gaming items ( unless I've just asked my son if he wants whatever it is) ;)
I'm guessing that to get hot votes on plain black polo , you'd have to show everyone else is charging more for it and that it's better quality than say a £5 one from asda.

I guess maybe we look at different things when voting, but I'd think price was fairly high up there, but you're right as certain deals that feature such dreaded words as "sports direct" are a guaranteed cold regardless of the price involved.

It is a moot point for me in any respect. I have been unable to vote for years.

Yes, others will use subjective factors (as I mentioned above) that may, or may not, be based on the price now, their expectation on the price movement in the future, or at any point in the past.

more from frustration as I could see some trolls targeting my deals and would vote cold instantly and if it reaches minus 20-30 then everyone else just piles in. Fair play to the admins/mods as they implemented this quickly 8)

You're absolutely right... Explain this:

- I look around for two weeks for an item out of stock at every retailer in the UK.
- To my astonishment, I find the item from a reasonable UK retailer
- Item is cheaper than anywhere else in the UK
- Post the deal on here, excited that I've found a winner
- Deal gets voted to -80 because a whole load of people who do not understand what the product is vote it cold, the sheep effect as you say.

Yup.

Just as frustrating when bitter people vote things cold because they personally can't afford it.

Yes.
I have noticed recently that quite a number of users just use this site as a means of communication with each other and talk a load of trivial rubbish not even related to the deal posted - If they and other can take the time to do that why not stick to the idea behind this site and post explanations on why a deal may be hot or not.
Knowing how this site now works I wouldnt avoid a deal just because it's been voted cold because I now know the vast majority will just be doing so following others and mostly without any sort of explanation as to why it's cold.
It's also annoying when people vote cold with random comments like 'cheaper elsewhere' without posting their own deal or fully explaining what they mean.
