From the Telegraph

"Amazon has started selling groceries in Britain, taking on Tesco, Ocado and Sainsbury's.

For the first time in Britain, Amazon.co.uk, famed for its cheap CDs, books and toys will now sell coffee, tea, wine, biscuits and even meat and vegetables.

In all, 20,000 different items will be on offer. All the major dried goods, such as tea, crisps, spices, biscuits, nappies and pasta will be stored in Amazon's own giant warehouses, allowing people to receive these by guaranteed delivery the next day."

I think this is great news!! it's still a beta version, but still. If there current service is anything to go by, they could be number 1 over night!

Good luck to them

Give them some time mate, they have gone from doing no food to doing a whole range... there are bound to be a few errors. I am sure they will crack it the same way they cracked the on-line business

Alot of the stuff seems to be sold by other people, not particularly at great prices either. Until Amazon themselves get a better selection and are alot more competitive, they wont be taking on anyone.

Putting "amazon groceries" in the search in the MISC forum brings up the original thread as the first hit.

Amazon USA has been doing this for ages, wonder if they ship internationally?

Supermarkets have specific warehouse and systems for perishables that I cannot see Amazon Marketplace sellers matching, not to mention the delivery costs, £100 order possibly having a dozen deliveries to make.

I'll be surprised if this work with perishables.
