It seems that http://www.amazon.com is stopping it's post-order price match soon .

"Only orders placed before September 1, 2008 are eligible for a price difference refund under the Post-Order Price Guarantee policy. As of September 1, 2008 we are no longer offering discounts if prices change on our website after you make a purchase."

This regards all amazons including http://www.amazon.co.uk policy's.

It's a shame but inevitable. I wonder if they'll start getting more returns now?

I just received the following in an email regarding my latest post-order guarantee refund from Amazon.co.uk customer services:

"Please note that only orders placed on or before September 1, 2008 are eligible for a price difference refund under the Post-Order Price Guarantee policy. However, we do continue to offer our Pre-order price guarantee."

This is sad! Here's what they said, after I grilled them about their generic copy&paste reply explaining the policy:

[SIZE=2]"I've found that the reason behind not continuing with the post-order price refund policy is our business decision. You may have been able to take advantage of post-purchase discounts on orders you placed in the past, but that policy was discontinued on September 1, 2008.[/SIZE]
[SIZE=2]Due to the competitive nature of our business, our policy is not to give out information on the inner workings of our company."

Thanks for the info - rep added. That was always a strong reason for using Amazon, and now it's gone I'll be more likely to buy elsewhere. I think they're going to find their returns increasing (and stopping returns was always the purpose of the policy in the first place).

I was relying on this as well - wish I'd noticed this post before I ordered at the beginning of this month. It will certainly reduce my support for their site.

I'm annoyed I missed this as it's one of the reasons I bought an mp3 player from Amazon that I thought may have a volatile price - I ordered it on Sunday evening, price dropped Monday morning by five pounds. Wish I'd ordered from Play in the first place. While I'm tempted to dig my heels in and return the item then reorder it on a matter of principle for the sake of five pounds it's probably not worth it.

I realise this thread is a bit old, but I have just spoken to Amazon and have been advised that they will still consider a refund if the price on their website drops within seven days of the order being placed. (Rather than the 30 day period they used to offer.)

If it is a significant amount then it might be worth escalating a claimif the first person you speak to isn't being particularly helpful.
