Amazon Kindle any good?

Hi, looking to buy this for a present for a 16yo girl. Looked at the many reviews on Amazon still can't make up my mind. Seems like some books are free and others are not.

Are the Kindles any good? Anyone have one? Also anyway you can get more books for free, particularly the new ones/best sellers.

Thanks

not legally.

they tend to be much cheaper than buying hard copies though.

Not bestsellers, but there's a wide range of free books in the Kindle store, as I understand it. Getting one myself soon.

You can get most books especially the best sellers from the usual less than above board routes, but there are plenty of free books on the Kindle Marketplace and Project Gutenburg (over 350,000 free books)

but the kindle is the balls when it comes to an ebook reader.

I'm unsure of whether being 'the balls' is a good thing or a bad thing in this instance? If bad, why?

I was unable to find any of the new books my missus wanted for "free" and proper versions were quite a bit more expensive than an actual book in the shops so I haven't gone for a Kindle yet, but if the books get cheaper to buy or better support in other places I will definately get one.

Basically the kindle is probably the best ebook reader on the market at the moment.
