I just placed an order but before the goods were despatched I tjust today happened to revisit and see the price had dropped on one item but had gone up on another. When I rang them, I was told that whatever the price is on the day you confirm your order, that is the price you pay, unless it was a pre-order item like a DVD where you may benefit from a drop in price. I was fortunate to be able to cancel the higher priced item and reorder it more cheaply - I guess it's just the luck of the draw but really frustrating when it happens. I hope for you that you had a bargain on the original price, though it's no real consolation. Could still be worth a call on their freephone number and see if they will consider a refund of the difference??

Similar thing just happened to. TV I ordered yesterday, hasn't been delivered yet, but too late to cancel has gone down by £10. I was told to wait for it to be delivered, then send it back, and then reorder it. To save a tenner? I don't think so. But what a ridiculous situation

i know that sassie said they no longer do this anymore and i really wouldn't know but found this might be worth a go.

Claim Your Cash Back From Amazon By
Published in Your Money on 11 January 2008

If you bought your Christmas presents from Amazon and they've since been reduced in the sale, you can claim the savings back. Yes really! Here's how..

If you were one of the thousands of Christmas shoppers who bought your presents online, you probably felt quite smug. After all, I expect you saved yourself countless fruitless searches for items that had sold out, not to mention the nightmare of trying to find a parking space, let alone the time wasted standing in monstrous queues to pay.

And if you happened to order most of your gifts from online retailer Amazon, you may have the opportunity to feel even more pleased with yourself. Why? Because the company offers a "Price Drop policy". Essentially, this means if anything you've purchased in the past 30 days has dropped in price, you can claim the difference back!

Clearly, with the retailer currently holding a January sale the chances of what you ordered having been reduced since Christmas are pretty high so it's well worth checking out.

How to claim
Firstly, log into your account in Amazon and view the orders you've placed in the past 30 days.
Check the price you paid for each item, and then how much it is currently selling for (you should be able to do this by simply clicking on the item itself).
If the price has been reduced, make a note of it.
Now go to Help (top right hand corner of the screen) and select 'Contact Us'.
Click on 'Customer Service'. You should now be able to select the right order.
Next you should be able to select the item you would like the refund for and click on 'Contact Amazon'.
Explain that you would like a refund as the price of the item has dropped in the past 30 days. You should then receive an email to confirm the difference will go back onto the card you paid with.

I followed that advice ^ no longer works my reply:
Dear Mr O'FurnitureThank you for contacting Amazon.co.uk. I sincerely apologies for the inconvenience and misunderstanding caused with this issue. The discounts we offer for items on our website do vary from time to time. I've checked your order #xxxxx and found that we now offer a discount on "something" than at the time you placed your order. Unfortunately, we cannot extend a refund to you for the difference between the original price and the lower price you saw posted on our website. While we don't always beat the best available price on every product, we do offer deep discounts on many thousands of items. From time to time, prices on some items will change due to special offers from suppliers and manufacturers or our inventory and sales volumes. When we can offer a lower price for new purchases we will, but we cannot extend these discounts to completed orders. Please note that only orders placed on or before September 1, 2008 are eligible for a price difference refund under the Post-Order Price Guarantee policy. However, we do continue to offer our Pre-order price guarantee. If you have any further questions, you can contact us at the following link:http://www.amazon.co.uk/email I am sorry for any disappointment that this may cause. I hope you'll be able to take advantage of the many discounts we offer on your next visit to our store. Thank you for shopping at Amazon.co.uk.Please let us know if this e-mail answered your question:

They discontinued the offer - which was surprisingly generous - and lowered the threshold for free delivery instead.

I have had an auto mail this morning from Amazon from a pre order of Mamma mia

Greetings from Amazon.co.uk.

You saved £4.99 with Amazon.co.uk's Pre-order Price Guarantee!

The price of the item(s) decreased after you ordered them, and we gave you the lowest price.

The following title(s) decreased in price:

Mamma Mia! [2008]
Price on order date: £12.98
Price charged at dispatch: £12.98
Lowest price up to and including release date: £7.99
Amount to be refunded: £4.99
Quantity: 1
Total Savings: £4.99

£4.99 is your total savings under our Pre-order Price Guarantee.

Because we reduced the price of your pre-release title between dispatch (when we charged you) and the release date, you will automatically receive a refund for £4.99. You will receive an additional e-mail when this refund is processed.

Hope this helps someone :santa:
