Amazon's One Day "Guaranteed" Delivery

Anyone else had issues this year regarding Amazon's One Day Delivery Service?

I had an order arrive and it was blatantly only sent Royal Mail 1st class standard. I've got a pre-order due for release tommorrow using one day delivery and they've only gone and sent it 1st class again. Fat chance of that arriving on release despite their "Guarantee".

According to customer services it was sent Royal Mail Royal High Letter Prime service and not first class standard. Yeah, right!

If it's sent first class surely there'd be a 1st class label/stamp/marking on it?

That's whats on it. When they arrive after the guaranteed dates it says First Class and has the marking in the corner. When i quizzed Amazon about it, that's when they made the claim it wasn't first class but was Royal High Letter Prime. Royal Mail Customer Services and my postman both confirmed Amazon is talking nonsense.

1st class generally takes one day to deliver as long as it is posted prior to 17:30.
If you expect an item to arrive valued under £46 to go by special delivery or courier your mistaken.

Pre 2012 i had items delivered by Special Delivery, Royal Mail Tracked and with City Link/HDNL/Yodel that only had the value of less than £10. This year, that suddenly changed. If One Day Delivery is selected, Amazon guarantee you will receive it the next day. Royal Mail doesn't guarantee that 1st class will arrive the next day. So Amazon shouldn't use it when selecting One Day Delivery. This isn't me being irrational. Amazon are misleading customers regarding delivery methods.

Amazon have lost the plot. They. Wouldn't even guarantee gw2 for release day.

Also prime. Amazon don't GUARANTEE 1 day delivery anymore. They key difference. They send it using a one day delivery service. So in this case first class. It should be a one day service. Which is what they say to you. It's not however guaranteed as we know. Amazon don't gte it either. You have to pay extra ontop of prime for gte'd.

Amazon's T&Cs say they do guarantee it. :| Also, they had to respond to the ASA earlier this year and confirmed they guarantee it. http://www.asa.org.uk/ASA-action/Adjudications/2012/5/Amazon-EU-Sarl/SHP_ADJ_185626.aspx

It seems the service has really gone downhill. I used to buy everything from Amazon but now I'm looking to find a new retailer for Games & DVDs. Anyone know if Play.com have improved since their buyout? I'm looking at buying from Shopto for my games though as I hear Game still have bad delivery times.

amazon are reliable but definitely not the quickest especially compared to shopto etc. Don't expect pre-orders early or even on the release day.

I remember ordering a TV for next business day delivery but it took 2 days to arrive. I mailed them to complain and they refunded my the charges straight away. Not ideal but there you go.

I think Royal High Letter Prime is Amazon's internal designation for the postal service. Royal being shorthand for Royal Mail, rather than the other companies they use, 'High Letter' perhaps being their version of RM's 'large letter', and Prime being the user's service. There's certainly no RM service with a name even similar to that.

Don't suppose you know if Play.com have improved their dispatch and delivery times? They used to take over a week to receive blurays last time I used them. I'm moving my games over to Shopto though.

Do people really think Amazon's delivery is that bad. You get Prime for £50 a year but can spread that across 5 accounts so you end up,paying £10 each. Amazon operates on volume sales rather than huge markups, so sending £10 items with £4+ postage includd clearly isn't sustainable, especially if a stamp will do 95% of the time.

Yes they could maybe word things better but what other retailers will dispatch something ordered at 17:59 and have the potential to reach you next day? At Christmas they change prime times to order before 19:00.

The service maybe isn't as good as it used to be but for the general good service, reliability on actually getting a delivery and price I can live with a few mishaps.

That makes sense. Amazon still won't honour their guarantee though. I'm being polite with them but they are still treating me like an idiot and just copy and pasting the same company lines again and again. Surely Royal Mail First Class shouldn't be used when they guarantee delivery for the next day.

Because, previous experience has proven otherwise. Five times this has happened. Everytime, it doesn't arrive the next day. It's not wrong for me to expect the same service I received last year, especially when I pay for it.

Are you sure they aren't using Royal Mail Tracked Next Day?

Yeah I'm sure. There's no tracking number and Amazon confirmed there was no tracking.

Yeah I'm sure. There's no tracking number and Amazon confirmed there was no tracking.

Give them a mail then and ask them to credit your account so you can pay for the premium delivery, that is the only guarantee, and even then I have had a few go walkabout.

What is he whinging about? It's quite simple, thicko, he's 'whinging' because Amazon uses a NON-GUARANTEED NEXT DAY POSTAL SERVICE for items which they GUARANTEE WILL ARRIVE THE NEXT DAY. If you can't understand that there's a logical problem with that situation, you're clearly too stupid to be left alone at the computer.
