ordered some lovely new bedding on thursday evening. the seller has put in the description of the bedding that its next day delivery. as i ordered them thursday evening i didnt expect them friday, but i did expect them saturday. it was only yesterday i got a dispatch email which says its being sent by royal mail standard speed. i have contacted the seller yesterday saying they shouldnt advertise the service if they cant provide it and said how disappointed i am in the service. they havent replied to explain why it hasnt been sent next day or apologised

Can understand your concerns but expecting next day delivery on a saturday may be a little too much as deliveries are based on working days and the weekends aren't classed as that. None the less the seller is late on despatching the item so you could either straight out neg them or give them the opportunity to resolve the matter in a manner that is suitable to both of you.i.e they get 5 star rating and positive feedback for a refund of your postal charges.

I always prefer giving the seller / company an opportunity to make me a happy customer and always find that many are happy to offer something in return for the positive feedback. It's a win win situation then

think i'll just neg them to be honest. cant ask for postage as it said free postage. i didnt know that next day didnt include saturdays, my bad! but regardless it should have been here by now. daft question but as a buyer on amazon can you get feedback? ive never seen any for buyers but wouldnt want to be negged back

Communicate with them they may offer you some discount, what have you got to lose? Nothing at the moment other than some reputation.

Sellers can leave buyers feedback
5 (Excellent)
4 (Good)
3 (Fair)
2 (Poor)
1 (Awful)

Plus they can leave comments and replies to feedback comments left by buyers

You ordered Thursday night, so the the order would have gone through on Friday.
The next working day would have been Monday - which is when it was despatched, so they've fulfilled their obligations. :)

I'm not 100% sure how it works in delivery charges when buying from Amazon marketplace, but if you were charged more for postage than what the other sellers are selling similar products at to post at standard delivery, contact Amazon, you should get a refund of the difference.

I buy and sell alot on eBay, Play etc, you simply must offer the service you are advertising. If I am late with postage, I send it a quicker method than paid for or refund part of the postage.

Why bother doing that when clearly the OP wants the item, plus it will only end up with both of them getting negative feedback. It will be sod's law that if the OP went elsewhere to buy the item it may cost them more, so in the end they lose out too.

Communication is the best policy as it could turn the purchase in to a great bargain in the end.

no point communicating if you dont need it

Order on Thursday night i.e. after working hours would be processed as a Friday order.
Next working day despatch would be on the Monday.

I agree, the seller could have paid extra to get a saturday delivery but its not a working day so I dont think the seller is in the wrong.

except it says next day delivery, not next day dispatch?
If I order something next day delivery, then I expect it next day, obviously depending on when it's ordered.

If I said to you (on Thursday night) “when is your next day at work” , you would say …Friday.
Therefore your next working day is Friday.
How on earth can you say the next working day is Monday. If Monday is next working day..what on earth is Friday? (considering we are talking Thursday).

thats exactly what i saw in the op

unless a few posters are privvy to some undisclosed information then id say you have to go on what is posted

you cant just presume what the sellers working hours are and also what his delivery regime is

Isn't the whole "working days" thing quite an antiquated concept? Saturdays are just a normal day to the RM, and on Sundays, it's only deliveries that they don't do. Office hours of mon-fri 9-5 also seem a tad pointless in the digital age (and I have never understood why shops would keep those hours - bye bye, that 5pm-6pm boost in sales as all the office workers suddenly become free to spend their earnings), and it all just seems to me as a bit of a cop-out for providing good service.

OFT regard "working days" as Mon-Fr (excl bank holidays). Therefore, Friday is classed as a working day full stop. In the same way, when you have 7 working days to notify that you intend to return a web order the supplier cannot count Sat/Sun as working days even if they are open.

On the contrary, in this case it would have been presumptuous to expect same day despatch on Friday for the item to reach the OP on Monday. If you book a next day courier, pick up is on the following day.

you can book a courier to pick items up on the same day and delivered next day

although as per your previous info couriers arent mentioned in the op ;)

also it was ordered on thursday evening

dont shopto offer nextday until 8pm or something?

Funny, how did I book a courier at 10.30 last tuesday, collected less than 2 hours later and delivered before 10am next day? FWIW I could have booked a colection for the same day up until 2pm.
Ebuyer offer next day delivery if you order before 11pm. I've ordered something at 10.30pm from them and had it the next morning.

Regardless of that, the OP specifically says it is being sent royal mail, so not sure why you are bringing up couriers? It isn't even being sent special delivery so no guarantee it will arrive next day or 5 days later.

Post offices are open 6 or 7 days a week, so they had the Friday and Saturday (and possibly Sunday) to post it.

Fair enough. It just seems like something worth revising in this century, since it does seem rather old-hat.

You can book a same day collection, but it's certainly not the norm. It's the UK way. It's a bonus if it does arrive the next day, but I wouldn't automatically expect it. :)

it was the norm for the 2 years i was back there and checking with interparcel they still offer same day collection until 14.30 for the budget express service with UPS which i used on numerous occasions, everytime arriving nextday.

as for your other point mentioning it being the UK way, well i dont live there and i can also get a sameday collection here....again using interparcel up until 16.30 using DHL express.

I don't know of any uk courier companies that don' collect same day if you book before a certain time.
Not that it matters, he posted it on the 2nd (or 3rd) working day, using, from the looks of it, standard parcels, which usually take 2-3 days for delivery. Ordering something Thursday night and not getting it till the following Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday is not next day delivery, not really sure why you think it is. Even if they did use a crap courier that doesn't collect same day, then they shouldn't say 'next day delivery'.
#29
gosh didnt expect this many replies. quick update. received the items this morning after they were dispatched on monday. the parcel had a next day sticker on so it should have arrived tuesday. im going to leave neutral feedback due to late dispatch and no communication from the seller despite me sending them an email about the late delivery

I never want to leave neg...but...
They sent it late and ignored your emails...You gave them perfect opportunity to redeem themselves by at least replying to the email. Ignoring the customer totally (after delaying dispatch) is out of order.

Ordered late Thursday, so my take on this is, they should have dispatched Friday for delivery Saturday or latest Monday. That to me is next day delivery! I would neg them for sure, false advertising.

So was it special delivery he sent it? Silver sticker?
#36
Or did he stick his own "next day" sticker on :)

it was a silver and navy next day sticker
#38
They sent it next day delivery so the seller has done nothing wrong IMO, does it state it will arrive next day after ordering or does it just say they will use a next day delivery service, there is a difference

Tell the seller, as they can claim back postage if it was sent special delivery but never arrived on time.
