Out of curiosity, what is generally accepted by members as enough feedback before trust is reached?
By reading a few threads i can see that ebay feedback is poo-poo'd by some if not ALL.
I know that i have to build up trust by posting first so was just wondering if someone can enlighten me as to what is the required trusted amount if ebay doesn't come into play?

It is slightly scary posting off items before you have been paid(or traded) and i suppose you are taking a gamble in other peoples good nature and trust.

I only joined last month having trawled this site for months and i notice that there are a lot of 'newbies' in the FS/FT section, so this may help them answer the same question.

I'm going to take a gamble tomorrow by trading with a guy who has only just joined(like myself). His ebay account is over 750,almost 100%. I sent him a message through ebay to verify his status, all checks out.

I don't post to every deal that i see so should i add comments to add to my post count??
Would rather post constructive comments rather than 'good deal' or 'hot' or am i being stupid by not posting?

Cheers

feedback up to like 5 or six with a low post count is fine

if you have higher post count/rep and people know you then you can start off with lower

also it just depends on the other buyer/sellers previous experience

I generally think its a combo between feedback and being 'known' as a member, as in someone who makes helpful and meaningful posts/threads.....I would personally buy from someone I felt I knew better with no feedback than someone who I hadnt seen before with loads.....needs to be a balance but not sure where that is.....

....a lot of people (especially in their first sales) offer to send the items before payment, and then obviously get paid when the buyer recieves it.....can only be done with people with fab feedback etc but its one way to establish trust :)
Another way to boost feedback is to buy things before you sell.....

Basically if youre a 'good seller' then take a few risks (with high feedback/decent members) and soon enough youre feedback will be high enough :)

to be honest if majority of items are of low value then i normally say 20 before i will pay first, but if some higher items then i will probably go for 15.

I never consider ebay feedback as this is not ebay, thus you could have great feedback on ebay confirm its you then rip someone off here on HUKDs for £100s and run without ruining the feedback you relied upon (ebay).

The only time i will pay first to lower then 15/20 feedback is if the item is of low value or if i know the person on HUKDs, or they are a long standing member ie longer then a year with lots of posts.

thanks for the replies.

The only problem i see is that if you only initially buy/trade/sell with established members you are limiting your market somewhat.
God, its a double edged sword this!!
As you say a few gambles will have to be taken before i 'establish' myself.

P.s How do i add a photo to my post rather than a link? Seen it done a few times on other posts, certainly helps.

you upload it onto photobucket/imageshack and paste the [img] code into a post...wont work in the OP but will in any normal post underneath so as soon as you open a thread you will need to 'reserve' a couple of posts to use for photos :)

Risks are inevitable anywhere....saves on ebay fees!!! If you have a few things to sell just sell the cheaper items 1st :)

You need to approach this from a different angle. Always ensure that you remain in a position to respond in the event a trade takes the turn for the worse.

Always follow the FS/FT Rules and trading advice and implement in full. A member with a perfect credible trading history here could decide not to return tomorrow.

By following the advice, you'll be able to escalate via telephone, email/letter or even a personal visit should the need arise.

FS/FT - Trade safe! Follow these guidelines!

Please be advised, all buyers and sellers should satisfy themselves that either party is genuine by providing and verifying the following via PM to each other and to Admin or a Moderator if they wish to keep a record:[LIST=1]
[*]Landline telephone number Make a CALL to check out the area code and number are correct too!
[*]Name and address including postcode
[*]Valid e-mail address [no disposable addresses such as @gmail or @yahoo for example].
[*]Using PayPal then check out eBay feedback if there is any and make a small payment to and from each other to validate the PayPal e-mail address.
[*]If possible, collect and pay for items in person
[*]Only buy from Verified PayPal Members if possible.[/LIST]Do NOT proceed with a deal until you are completely satisfied with all details being correct. It's in your best interest to check out these details yourself.

Basically, I would still happily send first to a member with high feedback, no matter what my feedback is. There are always exceptions to the rule, but I think 10+ begins to be trustworthy. I'm yet to hear ofsomeone who followed all the rules and guidlines who got scammed

Sums it up nicely. Anyone following the rules and guidelines to the full and have been scammed, should introduce themselves to me. I've yet to meet anyone, although we do have the odd story regarding people sending monies via email/bt and having no contact details whatsoever apart from email/account number.

If in any doubt about a trade, report the thread and a mod will review and or offer you assistance if required.

I think you will be fine if you stick to this one simple rule...........Don't trust anybody who types in colours or bold!:giggle:

LOL, I completed a trade on here, my 1st in a long time, only couple of days ago.

Got a 'trusted' recommendation from the seller. I did laugh a little.

He did want the money upfront. Probably would have had the safest ever forum trade had he just sent the item, but the seller was 100% correct on following the guidance above.

You could say "I'm happy to post first bit will only deal with certain members". That would help you build up trust. I remember before the feedback system was introduced here and there was extra reason to make sure everything checked out elsewhere.

On the other hand, you do get the 'regulars' with high post count and very good feedback who sometimes just dissapear. There's a few spring to mind

Wouldn't dare not follow all the guidelines. Wouldn't want the feedback 'Great HUKD'er would recommend, ps have an infraction for not following the rules'!!!

by the way lakerocker has given you feedback for a trade he appeared to do with someone else. so unless you've been dealing via pm lol I think he's gave feedback to the wrong person.:-D

If i'm buying, i treat every little cash as a lot, i won't ask someone to send first for a £2 dvd but a £10 ps3 game I would. I have never had a problem on here, always had items as described, and sent as intended. I always work out how trustworthy a person is by reading their feedback, maybe read a couple of the past threads, and ask a question or two.Always get the persons details too.

If you follow the very simple rules, you won't get scammed  73+ sales without a problem so far, but a few say they have been scammed, but then they reveal they dealt via PM, didn't follow the rules etc
Only pm private details, anything else, stays in threads, then then mods and members can see what has happened, and help you IF something goes wrong.

Or I've been rumbled. Good point though. Deleted 3/4 left for me since we went live with the feedback changes. Perhaps it's someone clicking the 1st name in the combo box when selecting which user to leave feedback for.

Pretty sure it's empty by default, although I'm not sure how we can prevent members from selecting the wrong username in feedback.

Cheers guys, some sound advice from you 'trusted' members!

I have goods that i am trying to trade at the moment on the FS/FT board so it is slightly different to buying/selling as there is no money involved, just a trust that when you send your item the other trader sends theirs and you don't get scammed(to be fair they are probably thinking the same!!).

As a bit of advice, would you, being the trader, expect to receive the other traders item first or should you post first?

Cheers
