I purchased a xbox 360 elite from this guy - ohknowes last week. It should have arrived last friday, but he emailed me and said that there was a delay as he was out when they came to collect the xbox from his house. Fair enough I thought. He then said that he had sent it via royal mail for delivery Mon/tuesday. It still has not arrived. I've pm'd him and even emailed him on the address I used to send £100 too via PPG.. and NO RESPONSE.

It's about now i'm starting to think I've been scammed.

Should I wait another couple of days before I really start worrying?

You sent £100 to someone with no feedback who joined on 11th july?

What other details about him do you have?
What thread did you do the sale in?

It's not looking good.

have you rang him?
what thread was it?
#3
Did you deal byu PM ?
#4
OP what thread
#5
op you sent money to some who has zero feedback should always be careful you may still get it but the chances are getting slim as each day passes on. Did you deal by pm as i can't find the post also it seems the person has only been a member since 11/07/10 and only done 7 posts.

I thought we had that 0 feedback thread about ebay a week ago, and most people here agreed having 0 feedback was completley fine.
#7
It was THIS thread- Your text here

He wrote that he had one... SO I PM'D him and we did the deal over PM. I can normally spot a scam a mile away, but we haggled on price etc and he diddnt seem like a nigerian conman, so I went ahead and sent him the cash.

On reflection I probably should have noticed that he only joined HUKD last week!

I'm literally tearing my hair out!

He was selling something a few days ago, so I just cannot tell if he is dodgy or not! But he's not answering my PM'S....
#8
did you bother to get a telephone number or address?

and you know how to spot a scam, ha lmao
#9
I think the username says it all...

Ohknowes...you been scammed!

lol, this is true.

To be fair, he might not have been a scammer. I get the impression that with a lot of people, it's not that they set out to defraud, it's more that once they've been given the money, their inner opportunistic thief emerges and poses the question that since they've got the money and you haven't got anything on them, why not keep both, since they can probably get away with it? It's not like they'll lose anything more than an account.

It's why you really need to get lots of details on people. Better still, it's why it's best to deal face to face. People need persuasion to silence that inner opportunist.

Did you manage to get anything on him that can trace him in the real world?

Edit: Ey, I see you've got his email address. What was it?

and he/she hasnt been online for nearly 3 days

just have to take it as a lesson learned really pal.

possibly leave it a few more days as the person could have a genuine reason for non response, family issues, work commitments etc. But as dangergod said it might just have to be a lesson learned. Next time follow the trading guidelines on here, i.e get address, telephone number etc
#16
Send a mail, stating if you not had any response. by the end of the day that you will have to get in touch with Fraud office (the police). They should be able to trace the person, as long as they werent using a pc in an library or internet cafe. Sounds movie ish, but all of us have ip address allocated from there isp. And should be able to find out from that.....

Good idea mate. I'll try this.

If he is a scammer it will not make any difference if he has paid by PPG really, He could claim he delivered it and then it's your word against his, no one can prove either way so not a leg to stand on unfortunately.

Lets hope it is just a delay and he has been unable to contact you.

Heres a thread he made - Your text here

He seems genuine, just with a low post count!

Does my head in... I've sent items out without payment etc and paud for items upfront in the past on laods of things... Just hope I havent been 'scammed' with this!

(3) All trading MUST take place and be completed fully on the HUKD FS/FT or FO.LK forums. All negotiations must be done within the thread until a sale is agreed by both parties

Not wishing to not sound sympathetic PAUL7331, but we do have rules in place to protect buyers/sellers. That (above) is just one of them. You shouldn't have dealt via PM, and you should have got more details eg name, address, phone number.
However it is only Wednesday and Royal Mail are slow at delivering, so maybe not quite time to start worrying

Post up his email address. If he is a scammer he might be in correspondence with other people using it.. maybe they'll see this post and get wise to his thieving ways.

Also, he might use it on other sites (like Facebook), so it might be possible to find some info on him using it.

I would recommend taking a hard line approach and threaten to go to the police (and go through with it if he doesn't respond). I've been scammed once or twice over the years I've been buying online and they've always paid up once I threaten to go to the police / pursue the loss through the courts.

No personal details please, you don't even know if he/she is a scammer.

However OP, thanks for the full copy of all correspondence. As far as I can see, the amount you sent is unclaimed at present. Can you retract if this is still the case.

As soon as this is sorted, you can both look forward to lengthy restrictions. I have little sympathy for members claiming to have been scammed but are quite happy to engage in illegal activities and defraud others. Pot, Kettle, Black or whatever the saying is.

I'll pursue this matter as we want to ensure the boards are as safe as possible with members assuming primary responsibility for their actions.

I'll be in touch.

I'ts been CLAIMED now mate. That was the PM'S from last week.

You went against the rules and sent a complete stranger who had been on the forum for 11days £100 of your own money without any protection and you reckon you can spot a scam a mile off??!!

It looks like you are a scammers dream mark, I suppose the fact that he didn't use words such as "monies" and "thankyou sir" put your mind at rest eh?!

Like seriously what goes through someones head to make them hand over money to a complete stranger without collecting and verifying the details...madness

OP...

Send me £100 via PP Gift and I promise - and guarantee - which is the same thing - to recover your money AND xbox.

Nope - it was sent as a gift. No comeback at all allowed hence a scammers dream.
