cannot comment on whether there are any problems or not yet but will update the post with any issues i find.

How did you get it? I can't yet. Using giff gaff sim but that shouldn't make a difference should it?
#2
Did you get the 4.1 update through a Over The Air update or via your PC as I got my Ace 2 from Orange unlocked it via a code and I am currently using a 3 sim and just tried updating it and it says No Update Available, I am just interested in which network got the update first.

had to do it manually using ODIN, as i have my phone rooted. Very simple to do the hardest part is finding the right webpage with the download on it.

This is the file you need I8160XXMC8_I8160TMNMC3_HOME.tar.md5 from this site http://androidaddition.com/download-official-android-4-1-2-i8160xxmc8-firmware-for-samsung-galaxy-ace-2/ Click on the download description which then takes you to the right page, click on regular download and wait the 60 seconds. The page refreshes with 'click here to download' do so and the download will begin. Do not do anything with the .zip file except note where it is located.

You will also need to download ODIN, if you understand this then you'll know what to do. If you have no idea what im on about read the instructions and follow them to the letter.

As for how its running, i have had no problems installing and everything seems to be working and running. I have re installed all my apps and they work the only one i have found that doesn't download is the Halifax banking app but that's because its not available anymore.

The manual install provides you with unwanted programs and they can be easily uninstalled as per any app, if you are more adventurous and want to root the phone then Super on click v2.3.3 then it works fine and allows you to then install Rooting software such as Root Toolbox which allows you to then uninstall the bloatware that you may never use but normally cannot delete i.e. Chaton, yahoo stuff, talkback, software update (as its not use to rooted phones)

Also link 2 SD allows you to 'freeze' programs so that you can test run the phone with things you would like to get rid of but aren't sure if it will affect the operation of the phone BEFORE deciding to permanently delete them.

a) I've heard the upgrade can be laggy, is that just the leaked upgrade or the official also?
b) Is it available on all networks? I'm on virgin.

Thanks :)

You can update the Galaxy Ace 2 via Odin now which is the official version, I don't know whether all networks are covered in that update, but I am waiting for the Over The Air update as they may sort out some of the bugs.

The link i provided is the official release, i put it up for those who may have rooted their phone and are unable to update via OTA. Bear in mind though that the update id for the galaxy ace TWO and not the original.

the unofficial rom was quite laggy at times, but i have had no issues with the official one that i downloaded.

Thanks. I think I will wait for OTA since it should be soon (I'm assuming it will happen and it just seems simpler). I was wondering, does the update have haptic feedback? Gingerbread doesn't and I'm quite sad about it.

I have just been on Sammobile and it says that the Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 will get 4.2.2 update, it does not say when this update is coming but it will be the last official version that Samsung will release for the Ace 2

Will jellybean solve the ridiculous 'feature' of waking me up in the night by vibrating because the battery is charged? the one which can't be turned off? otherwise I will regret buying this phone.
#12
LOL not sure im quite a heavy sleeper, will charge the phone and get back to you. :)
#13
Nope still vibrates but you can turn the vibrate function off by dragging down the top bar (where the time is displayed) and turn it off.

Ok as long as that def disables the vibrate? because nothing I do on Gingerbread will disable the fully charged buzz. :(

Not sure whether to wait for OTA. Anyone know if that's def coming?

As it's such a big upgrade, no, it won't be coming via OTA. It'll doing this method or through Kies. :)

OTA is already out

What network is your SGA2 on ? Is your SGA2 a factory unlocked version? As my SGA2 Originally on Orange now unlocked still says No Update Available. And there's no news on Sammobile. Please can you let us know.

Im on Tmobile and its been out for about a month now. I had to upgrade manually as i have rooted the phone and OTA no longer is useful.

Thanks for letting me know, My my SGA2 is a Orange/T-Mobile (EE) and I can't find anything for it other than a 2.3.6 download, you're not using the leaked version for TMN network in Portugal are you, as I know thats been out for a while.

I bought mine at Carphone Warehouse and while it says updatable on their system, it isn't. I don't think mine is branded but on Google play when I remote install something it does come up as T-Mobile. My Sim card is Virgin but I switched from T-mob recently and kept my number. Back in 2008 I had the same number on O2. Basically I have no clue why it says T-Mob or if that affects download of OTA!

Hi, sorry to be annoying but does doing that definitely stop the vibrate? It doesn't seem to on Gingerbread?

As to your question about the vibrate I don`t know, but as to the OTA update it matters as to which network you are with, because when they release the 4.1 update each network add their own little bits of software/branding etc which has to be checked, whereas a SGA2 that is SIM free from the start will get the update first (usually) because their is no bits to be added. That's what a mobile phone manager at Orange told me, if that's wrong someone will put me right. But that's what he led me to believe. The reason why T-Mobile shows up on Google Play is because Virgin Mobile use the networks of T-Mobile/Orange EE as it is known now.

Hi I have an Ace 2 and I am on EE/Orange in the UK. When can I expect to get the update? Nothing has come through on KIES or OTA. Is it worth doing it myself? I'm just worried it will lag as some people have mentioned that :/

Me personally I would wait until the correct version is released by Samsung and your network, It can`t be far away.

Thanks, my phone seems to be unbranded on the actual phone though. I bought it unlocked from Carphone Warehouse and then put my Virgin SIM into it so unless it locks to the SIM shouldn't mine have the update by now? :|

Is it definitely coming to the UK, are there any sources confirming it?

WAHHHHHHHHH. My plans of meeting with my brother today were ruined as I forgot my phone because this beeping is messing up my charging routine. Obviously it was my error but this never would have happened if I could just charge this at night normally. Such a little thing causing so many problems. :( I wonder how much money I'll lose if I sell it used on eBay. I don't think I can buy Samsung again. :(

The only things I can find regarding the 4.1 update is the TMN network in Portugal has got 4.1 now, and that's the leaked version doing the rounds on various websites, and there is a network in China that also has the 4.1 JB version now, as far as the UK networks getting JB, we will get it but the question is when, your guess is as good as mine I can't see it being far away, but its in Samsungs hands and everyone knows Samsung will do it when they feel like it.

My phone has just finished charging and it didn't vibrate it just bleeped when it reached 100% so it must be a setting that has been selected as to which setting I don't know, the only thing I can recommend is to email Samsung`s UK Technicial Department and explain your problem, try to give them as much information as possible and see what they recommend Iam sure there is a way of turning the vibrate off but I can't find it. Hope you get it sorted seems ashame to sell it and lose money on it for that.

mclovin9091 is talking about 4.1.2 so this is confusing! I guess it's good that it might be updated even further? Do they both have Google Now and Project Butter? Maybe it's taking so long to release it because they're going to 2.2.2

Yeah I might try that thanks. It's a shame because I did think I liked Samsung products and it will actually lose them my money in future if I can't fix this.

So on sunday night (I think!) I downloaded Kies and plugged in my phone and upgraded to 4.1.2 :)

It appears that the buzz/beep when fully charged has been FIXED. :D It did buzz when I got a fb chat message even though it was on silent but the app itself was set to vibrate so perhaps it was overriding that. I've turned it off in-app, hopefully that'll solve it. Still don't know why there are so many problems with something as simple as silent/non-vibrate mode with this phone!

It's quite laggy but then I didn't do a hard reset and have so many apps etc that it was half as laggy on Gingerbread anyways. Once I test out the random apps I downloaded and forgot to use (so I know whether I want to redownload them post-wipe) I'll do a hard reset and see how it is.

I like the changes so far. The wifi didn't work at first but now does. The battery does seem to discharge REALLY fast and discharge slowly but I haven't tried disabling Google Now (which hasn't come in handy so far) or a hard reset so we'll see.
#33
The biggest drain on the battery is keeping it looking for a GPRS or HSPDA (or whatever it is) signal, if you do not need to be constantly connected to the internet/facebook/twitter turn off the 'mobile data'. I found this out when i was abroad and was using the phone as an MP3 player and could quite easily get well over 20 hours playback, and was charging the phone once a week but i did also have the 'air plane' mode on so that it wasn't looking for any mobile signals.

The problem with different apps is that yes they can all over ride the phone settings, rather than the phone setting the app settings by default. The worst one i have found is Ebay as it (can) go off when you are watching items that are due to end but have forgotten about.
#34
can you describe it in the easyest was possible coz i really wanna update it but i cant i get confused
#35
Can you update Over The Air?
#36
I'm on Orange/EE, no ota update but kies is showing an update is available.

Problem is when everything is downloaded and my phone changes to the lil green man, my laptop says usb device not recognised!

this happens on windows 7 machine and XP

any ideas what i can do or am doing wrong?
#37
Did anybody else receive a OTA firmware update today? It says it's for "Improved stability" and is 42.34MB. I haven't installed it yet because I am a wuss and scared it will bring back the fully-charged beep notification or something. :p It came at a good time though, my Ace 2 is crashing a lot and was going to do a hard reset soon anyway.

I am (pre-firmware update) running 4.1.2 Jellybean which I installed through Kies. :)

Maybe, but if it brings back the beeping I'll have no choice but to sell my phone. :( I know it didn't bother other people so was going to wait, but not sire anybody else has had firmware update appear? JB really isn't stable for me at the moment though... maybe I should just update it because I'm kinda wanting to sell it already.

Updated,no problems.
So far...
