Android Newbie - contacts syncing with google problem - help!

OK So I've just bought myself a Motorola Flipout and relatively new to android. I imported old contacts into CSV file and then into my GMAIL account, now synced it with my Flipout and all the contacts are there.

HOWEVER, HERE IS THE PROBLEM...
Whenever I add a new contact on the phone, and then sync it with my gmail account, it always goes into "OTHER contacts" and not "MY contacts". This means that all my new contacts don't show up in the address book (even it is on VIEW ALL CONTACTS) unless I search for themw hich is kind of annoying. I then have to log into GMAIL on my PC and transfer them from other contacts to my contacts which is a long process!

Is there any way of doing the following? Every time I add a contact it goes straight into MY CONTACTS and not OTHER contacts?

Thanks in advance for help

I'm new to droid too and have a diff phone but . . . . when in contacts on my phone select the contact you want to group.
You then see the contact details down in other is groups, there select groups and just tick the ones you want it grouped under and save.
Is this what you mean / need?
