Android warning - all messages deleted

A warning for those people here with Android phones (mine is HTC Desire) Today I had the misfortune of opening my messages to find they had all gone.

I did research and it seems that this has been a problem with android since 2009 and nothing has been done about it.

Queue all the apple lovers (who were late for work a few times in the last year) saying "well you should have bought an iphone shouldnt you?"

Back up your messages if you can.

never heard of this, there have been various updates and firmwares since 2009.

also your post is vague AND how is it a warning when we cant do nothing about it?

well pretty much as the title says, i did the 4.2.1 update this morning. i have 2 iphone 4's, one for work, one for personal use. i did both one after the other, no problems. but afterwards, i find that on my personal iphone, all my text messages are gone. completely.

If text messages are so important then back them up to a PC. That's what I'd do if it mattered to me.

Or get an iPhone ;)

Like I said - mine coming up to a year. I think its only if you are lazy like me and dont delete messages. The phone decides to do it for you.

Luckily I have O2 bluebook (which is ending) so all backed up but thought Id make people aware...

Oh - and Id rather lose messages than be late for work ;)

Never had this on my hero but a good app (sorry but late now i know) is smsbackupandrestore form the android market for free.
I reset my phone the other day, and ok, it took 2 hours to restore some 3500 sms' but it is a very good piece of kit

Surely you don't need all 3500 SMS?

How many SMS do people save? And what do you need them for? Surely most of them are just inane ramblings, "how are you" "running late, see you in a bit" etc. etc.

Proposals of love, sex text, begging texts of "take me back you were the best I ever had"....they all help to boost ones ego :)

Things that I never get round to writing down like addresses and other details. Note to self - get more organised! :)
