Animal crossing and wii speak question

I am buying this for some friends childrens as they have asked for this game. I know nothing about games. They have not asked for wii speak but it seems to be advertised with this in most places. Would you ever have the game without the wii speak? or is this necessary for enjoyment of game? Do you use wii speak with any other games - it seems to cost just a bit less the the game. Thanks a lot.

Yeah I'm in the same boat, unless their friends get the speak too then it is going to be useless.

Game is still one of the kids favourites on the DS so may just get the game as you can get the wii speak seperately at a later date.

Game is around £30 wii speak is around £20. Combined is around £45

Don't think there are any other applications for it yet, but future games may utilise it one would hope.

p.s snowtiger are you on some sort of mission?

Its not completely necessary for the game, plus the Nintendo network is so locked down you can't speak to random people without a friend code. IMO don't get it.

it's not "completely necessary"? Is it at all necessary? What does it add to the game? Just don't want to buy half the product if they would have wanted the whole thing you see.

If their friends have it too they can speak live over the net whilst playing the game.

But you can play it as a normal game without it. As I said they need a friend with the same setup for it to be of any use.

and why would they speak to friends while playing this? Can both friends appear on same screen? As I said I am totally amateur at this.

I suspect the game will be enough.

I assume that as in the DS you invite other people via online into your town.

Your friends character then enters your town and you speak live.
