Annoyed - Vigrin tv doesn't work with LG tv!

Just had virgin man out to have a look at my set top box for my virgin tv and apparently the reason why it randomly changes channels every 2 mins is because the basic virgin box is not compatible with my LG tv... how annoying is that.
He said they work on the same frequency and the same is also happening to virgin tv when the room it is in has a certain type of longlife lightbulb!

Does anyone else have this problem? I'm fed up with my kids trying to watch one programme and getting something different entirely.

Sorry, explain what the problem is?

Ask them to change the box, there is no reason the TV should cause any interference especially a channel changing with a box that is connected through scart.

The VBox or TV do not output any infrared (remote frequencies) they receive them.

If they give you any grief ask them to point out where in the small print it says LG (which is Philips by the way) TVs will not work with standard equipment.

Sounds like a known problem thats widely reported (the lightbulb thing anyway).

er slighty off topic.. i have an LG tv and a vrigin box.. was wondering does anyone know how to program the virgin remote so that i can use that remote to adjucst the tv's volume?

I must admit my virgin box turns over itself when it feels like it and regularly boots us out of on demand to go to a random channel, and baloney or not I DO have those enegy saving lightbulbs in the room too.

We had a similar problem with Samsung LCD TV and Sky+ box. Went on for months until we were eventually told that there was a compatibility problem with certain makes of Sky+ boxes and the model of Samsung TV we had. Try getting a different make of Virgin box to see if that will sort it. Best of luck!

you dont need to program the remote, it turns the volume down on the box not your tv

LG (which is Philips by the way) .
LG is not Philips. LG (Lucky Goldstar) is South Korean, Philips is Dutch. They are in joint ventures together but they're not commonly owned.

And you're right, there's no way that this problem is anything to do with the make of TV. Reddiamonds is having his/her chain yanked.

LG use Philips components, or Vice Versa can never remember which way round it is. CLICKY

Thats why all the SKY Remote codes for Philips TVs work on LG sets, LG sets aren't or certainly weren't listed in the sky list for remote codes

I know its totally a cop out on their part. This is the 4th time I have called them out with this problem (only since having this newish tv too I might add) and each time I have had a new box and new remote and each time it hasn't solved my problem.

Apparently I won't have this problem if I upgrade to the virgin equivalent of the SKY+ but that is £75 and more money a month and not even a guarantee.

It is ****, I'm so fed up with them - to whoever suggested I ring them - yes I would but in the past I have spoken to so many people who barely have a grip on English that my stress levels cannot cope with yet another person saying they don't understand what I'm asking or trying to fob me off with an answer that is irrelevant to my question...

 your tv doesnt work with a certain type of lightbulb?

acording to AV forums, wearing a green shell suit and stand on one leg while holding a metal frame coathanger relieves this issue.

Had the same problem but boiled down to energy saving lightbulbs they changed the black box for a silver one and touch wood not had a problem since also moved the box back slighly so the sensor couldnt see the bulbs in direct sight try placing a bit of black tape over the sensor and turn lights on and off see if it still does it seems ok once the bulbs warmed up
