Another broken ds lite one - anyone know whats wrong with this...fellow freecycler again...

Hi, My 5 year old son knocked his ds lite off the sofa & now the bottom screen lights up & just stays blank so he cant play his games & he is extremely upset as he only got it for his birthday 2 months ago. I cant afford to replace it & after checking nintendo's site would cost up to £50 to fix.
Does anyone have any ideas of how to fix it without all the cost?

Any adviceideas appreciated and will pass them onto her....

its still under warranty

cant you take it back under warranty or is it showing outward damage?

if it shows no damage take it back under warranty and say that it's been playing up a few weeks on and off but now it's completely stopped working now.

Yeah otherwise I dont know her from Adam....so how does the warranty work? Cos i have the one I swapped with someone which doesnt charge when charger inserted - If I bought it online in November can I just send it back - bit clueless on all this warranty stuff? And what if I cant remember if its the one from Amazon or the one from Game? Do they record serial numbers? Will mail the person and see if she can give that a try....and maybe I will too!

Agree with the other posters - if not eBay it and put it towards another - you should get £40-50 from eBay

buy another from tescos swap it complain it doesnt work
then ask for a refund

the warranty works like any warranty, if it stops working then you take it back, obviously this odesnt cover accidental damage

I never fill in the warranty cards on things though - does that mean the warranty is invalid or will I be okay with serial number and delivery note\copy of order\invoice\whatever I can find....and then just send it back to Amazon or Game recorded delivery? Will have a proper look round their site as probably answered there but dont have time just now cos at work!

you need proof of purchase, nothing to do with warranty cards, you will need to get intouch with game or amazon and se what their returs policy is on faulty goods

Sounds like the ribbon cable has come loose.

You could pick up a set of Triwing screwdrivers for a couple of quid and open the DS up, pop the cable back in and you're away. This can be tricky though and may brick the system.

Alternatively, rather than Tesco, try ARGOS. A colleague of mine did the same thing, bought one, swapped them over, took back the broken one, demanded a refund and got it.
